List of Scholarships in Singapore for Primary and Secondary Students
Edusave Scheme: Edusave Awards
In 1993, the Government started the Edusave scheme to maximise opportunities for all Singaporean children when they are in primary school. Edusave awards recognise students' achievements in both academic and non-academic ways.
Edusave Character Award (ECHA)
This award recognises up to 2% of students who have demonstrated exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities, through their behaviour and actions.
All Singaporean students in Government and Government-aided schools, junior colleges/centralised institute, independent schools, specialised schools and the Institute of Technical Education are eligible for the Edusave Character Award.
The values of the award are as follows:
- $200 for Primary 1 to 3
- $500 for Secondary 1 to 5
- $500 for Pre-University 1 to 3
- $350 for Primary 4 to 6
- $500 for Nitec/Higher Nitec students enrolled at the Institute of Technical Education/specialised school
Edusave Scholarship
Recognises students who are within the top 10% of their level and course in terms of academic performance. They should also have demonstrated good conduct.
All Singaporean students from Primary 5 onwards in Government, Government-aided and specialised schools are eligible for the Edusave Scholarship.
The values of the award are as follows:
- $350 for Primary 5 to 6
- $500 for Secondary/specialised schools
Edusave Scholarships for Independent (ESIS)
This award attracts academically strong students to consider an education at one of the independent schools (IS).
The ESIS are awarded to Singaporean students who are in the top one-third of the total number of Secondary 1 students admitted to all IS, based on PSLE results (before bonus points).
It is also awarded to Primary 6 Gifted Education Programme (GEP) Singaporean students who meet the P6 GEP promotion criteria. They also need to be enrolled in the Integrated Programme (IP) of an IS at S12.
The ESIS award quantum is $2,400, or the annual school fees charged by the IS less the annual amount of school and standard miscellaneous fees paid by students in government/government-aided schools, whichever is lower.

Edusave Skills Award (ESA)
This award recognises up to 10% of graduating students who have demonstrated excellent professional and soft skills throughout their course of study, and good conduct.
All Singaporean students in specialised schools, the Institute of Technical Education and Polytechnics are eligible for the Edusave Skills Award.
The award is given based on their performance in curriculum components. This includes internships, Final Year Projects, and/or achievements in competitions, conferences or other platforms that require the application of course-specific skills, and good conduct.
The value of this award is $500.
Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES)
This award recognises up to 10% of students who have demonstrated leadership qualities, service to community and schools, excellence in non-academic activities, and good conduct.
All Singaporean students from Primary 4 onwards in Government and Government-aided schools, junior colleges/centralised institute, independent schools, specialised schools and the Institute of Technical Education are eligible for the Edusave Award for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service.
The values of the award are as follows:
- $250 for Primary 4 to 6
- $350 for Secondary 1 to 5
- $400 for Pre-University 1 to 3
- $500 for Nitec/Higher Nitec students enrolled at the Institute of Technical Education/specialised school
Edusave Merit Bursary (EMB)
This award recognises students from more modest backgrounds who are within the top 25% of their level and course in terms of academic performance, have demonstrated good conduct and whose household income does not exceed $6,900 (or per capita income does not exceed $1,725).
All Singaporean students in Government and Government-aided schools, junior colleges/centralised institute, independent schools, specialised schools and the Institute of Technical Education and Polytechnics who are not recipients of any Edusave Scholarship are eligible for the Edusave Merit Bursary.
The values of the bursary are as follows:
- $200 for Primary 1 to 3
- $250 for Primary 4 to 6
- $350 for Secondary 1 to 5
- $400 for Pre-University 1 to 3
- $500 for Institute of Technical Education/specialised schools/Polytechnics
Edusave Good Progress Award (GPA)
This award recognises students who are within the top 10% of their level and course in terms of improvement in their academic performance, and have demonstrated good conduct.
All Singaporean students in Government and Government-aided primary and secondary schools (from Primary 2 onwards), junior colleges/centralised institute, independent schools, specialised schools, the Institute of Technical Education and Polytechnics (from Year 2 onwards) who are not recipients of any Edusave Scholarship or the Edusave Merit Bursary are eligible for the Edusave Good Progress Award.
The values of the award are as follows:
- $100 for Primary 2 to 3
- $150 for Primary 4 to 6
- $200 for Secondary 1 to 5
- $250 for Pre-University 1 to 3
- $400 for Institute of Technical Education/specialised schools//Polytechnics Year 2-3
Programme-Based Scholarships
Regional Studies Programme (RSP) Scholarships
This scholarship encourages academically able and linguistically talented students to pursue Malay (Special Programme) or Bahasa Indonesia as a third language under the Regional Studies Programme.
It provides the students an opportunity to learn about the Southeast Asian culture and contemporary society.
The RSP aims to nurture a segment of non-Malays in each generation who are comfortably conversant in the Malay Language (ML) to engage the nearby region effectively. RSPS is available at the following centres:
- Anglo Chinese School (Independent)
- Cedar Girls’ School
- Raffles Institution
- Raffles Girls’ School
- Victoria School
The scholarship is awarded at Secondary 1 and Secondary 3.
The scholarship provides an allowance of $1,000 per annum. It also covers school fees based on Singapore Citizens’ rates, subject to an annual cap of $2,400. It is tenable for six and four years at Secondary 1 and Secondary 3 levels respectively, subject to satisfactory progress at the end of each year and good conduct.

Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP)
The Bicultural Studies Programme (BSP) Scholarship is offered by the Ministry of Education to encourage outstanding students, who have the interest and capacity to engage China’s culture and contemporary society, to pursue Chinese Language under the BSP.
BSP Scholarship (Sec 3 Intake) is available at the following centres:
- Catholic High School
- CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’School
- Dunman High School
- Hwa Chong Institution
- Nanyang Girls’ High School
- River Valley High School
- Singapore Chinese Girls’ School
The scholarship provides an allowance of $1,000 per annum. It also covers school fees based on Singapore Citizens’ rates, subject to an annual cap of $2,400. It is tenable for four years, subject to satisfactory progress at the end of each year and good conduct.

Special Scholarships and Awards
The Prime Minister’s Book Prize
Given to promote effective bilingualism in schools. Both primary and secondary school students are eligible.
The Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science
This award recognises students for their achievements in mathematics and science and to encourage them to continue pursue STEM.
Students of Secondary school, Pre-University and Polytechnics are eligible for this award.
The Lee Kuan Yew Award for All-Round Excellence (LKY ARE Award)
This award is for secondary school students. It recognises well-rounded students who have excelled in both academic and non-academic spheres, and who exemplify positive character development, strong leadership and commitment to service to the community
The Lee Kuan Yew Award for Outstanding Normal Course Students (LKY-ONC)
This award is for secondary school (Normal Academic and Normal Technical courses) students. It recognises students in Normal Academic and Normal Technical courses for their academic achievements and to encourage them to continue striving for academic accomplishments.
The Lee Hsien Loong Award for Special Achievement (LHL ASA)
This award recognises students from NorthLight School and Assumption Pathway School who have exemplified positive character development and a positive attitude and commitment to serve the community.
