Parents should accept their children, no matter how imperfect they may be; advised the chief executive of Temasek Holdings, Ho Ching, in her post online.

Sharing her thoughts on modern parenting, Ho Ching, the wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, encouraged parents to raise imperfect children and “be okay with it.”

Her post was added to the popular Facebook page Love What Matters, on Monday (19 April); and talked about raising happy real and humans.

And we couldn’t agree more!

Ho Ching Advises Parents To Be ‘Okay’ With Imperfect Children

Ho Ching is known for her active online participation and we all know that she often shares interesting tidbits on her official page. Some of these are posts with motivational quotes that often encourage her followers, too.

This recent one has especially struck a chord with all parent. The post was originally from the Living Full page and shared by Ho Ching. It says:

“Let’s raise imperfect children and be okay with it...Be okay with them messing up and apologizing. Let’s be okay with them crying in public…be okay with them not fitting the mould. Because we want to raise humans who are real, happy and able to embrace all of life’s messiness. So, I’m proud to be the not-so-perfect parent of not-so-perfect children.”

No Child And Parent Is Perfect

While Ho Ching didn’t write anything addition to the post, her message was loud and clear: just as no child is perfect, no parent is perfect either.

As parents, we always want what’s best for our kids and wish for them to succeed in life. But it’s important to remember that it’s only normal for us to make mistakes. You can even say it’s the most human thing about us.

We might find that our kids don’t grow up as we expect them to be. But this shouldn’t matter as long as they’re happy. This is what the post from Ho Ching tried to explain.

It’s a thought that we often forget to remember and one that we need to recall now, especially given the current situation of the world and, as the post points, “life’s messiness.”

Aside from the motivational posts she shares daily, Ho Ching also has many admirable qualities we can learn from. Here are a few reasons why parents may look up to her for:

1. A hardworking mum
As hardworking as she is, Ho Ching still manages to be present as a mother of four. Even while being a public figure, she makes sure to expose them too much to the media.

2. She’s been recognised many times for her influence
Ho Ching has been on the Forbes list for The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women. She’s also been part of Time Magazine‘s “100 Most Influential Men and Women” back in 2007.

In 2014, Ho was also conferred with the Asian Business Leaders Award back. In the same year, she was part of the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations’ Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame.

3. Her charitable ways
Even with her busy schedule, Ho supports various charitable organisations and takes part in helping the community. She’s also been vocal about her COVID-19 vaccination and has often encouraged those eligible to take it as well.

4. Her excellence in academics
You might have already heard that Ho was one of the top students in National Junior College. She then graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours in 1976, at the National University of Singapore. She also has a Master in Engineering degree from Stanford University. All in all, an all-rounder!

5. Her career is worthy of praise
From an engineer with the Ministry of Defence of Singapore, Ho is now the chief executive and executive director of Temasek Holdings.

With many achievements in her kitty, Ho Ching remains a proponent of hard work and often encourages young couples to be role models for their kids too. Just as she did this time. She reminded couples to be proud parents of their “not-so-perfect” children.

Let us follow in Ho Ching’s footsteps and parent our children with kindness.
