After the success of Singaporean divers Jonathan Chan and Freida Lim at the Tokyo2020 Olympics, many young kids are now inspired to dive right into their dreams as well.

If your child is also keen on learning diving– and perhaps become a part of the Olympic pool someday – the Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) is starting a Singapore Diving Talent Search!

SSA is currently on the hunt for the next generation of diving stars and your child could just be one of them.

The Singapore Diving Talent Search is a platform where children are invited to a talent identification (TID) programme to start learning the Olympic style of diving in Singapore.

The Talent Search involves a two-hour session run by the country's national team coaches.

Your child will get to experience diving specific activities that are designed to find potential divers that could be the next generation stars in the sport.

Learning Diving In Singapore: Why You Should Consider It

Sounds like a lot of pressure to put on your little one? It's actually not! You can take learning diving in Singapore as a way for your child to improve their water skills and even develop new ones.

If you're considering signing up your child for the Talent Search session, here's why you should let them attend:

  • To give your kid the opportunity to take part in a free diving and trampoline session run by national team divers and coaches
  • Help them learn a range of new skills and improve techniques they already know
  • Your child could stand the chance to gain a place in the National Programme
  • It will only cost you the ActiveSG pool entry fee, which is around $0.50 to $0.60

What To Expect At The Diving Session

For the Talent Search, participants will undergo a fun and challenging session with 50 per cent of the session on the dry land and another 50 per cent in the pool

Before jumping into the water and learning diving specific skills, divers will first work through some warm-up exercises on dry land. This includes:

  • Trampoline and gymnastic based skills
  • Simple tests to assess body shape, strength and flexibility

Once done with activities on dry land, divers will then work through an introductory diving session in the pool. Divers get to attempt basic skills from the poolside and lower boards.

After the learning diving session, divers may even get the chance to experience the 10-metre Olympic platform.

Parents can be assured that the safety of the divers is of top priority for SSA. Since no diving experience is required to sign up your child, the session will be tailored to fit their confidence level and ability.
