Get your child vaccinated before going overseas

Parents, if you're thinking of taking your kids on an overseas trip during the June holidays, be sure to plan ahead and get them vaccinated on time!

Better safe than sorry – get your child vaccinated before any trip overseas

Parents, if you’re thinking of taking your kids on an overseas trip during the June holidays, be sure to plan ahead and get your child vaccinated on time! This is because doctors say that some vaccinations require more than one dose. For example, the H1N1 vaccination, children below the age of nine need two doses – each taken four weeks apart.

Doctors say families often send their children for jabs after the mid-year exams, which may be too late and are urging parents to be aware of diseases such as measles when traveling. Dr Lim Poh Lian, senior consultant, Infectious Diseases Department, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, says: “For young children and people who are traveling, because you’ll be around more people, in busy airports and when you’re traveling, it is a good idea to get your flu vaccine. So if you haven’t had a flu vaccine, including the H1N1, within the last one year, you should get it.”

Hope you like our tip on getting your child vaccinated before travelling overseas.
