Kids spas the new IN thing!swim

Salon and spa treatments are no longer just for adults. Children’s outlets around Singapore are growing, and more parents are choosing to treat their kids to these little luxuries. Kids’ spa services range from $30 to $430, depending on how far you want to take the pampering.

Specialised children’s outlets offer themed spa parties, while adult spas are adding sidelines for juniors. Local spa chain Spa Esprit, known for its adult treatments, now offers manicures, pedicures, facials and massages for kids. Also, Loewen Spa in Tanglin Village, which started holding spa parties for children two years ago, has seen more parents inquiring about such parties. The spa has even started manicure classes for children to teach them proper filing and polishing techniques.

Some parents and child behaviour experts are concerned if children are growing up too fast. Moreover, beauty products may contain substances that are harmful to young skin, though several spas claim they use organic products for kids.

Quite a few parents, however, are enthusiastic about this growing trend.

“I think it is a brilliant idea. It's a great way to teach my daughter about the importance of nail and feet hygeine and yet at the same time catch up on mother-daughter time,” says expatriate mom Norma Hyain.

Home maker, Tiffany Teo agrees as well. In fact, she just recently held her daughter's 7th birthday at a spa. "The party was a hit. The girls completely enjoyed themselves and were so excited about their different nail colours and what not. After I threw my daughter's party at a spa, another two of her classmates have also done so!"
