It is normal for children to play outside and try new things; these are just a common part of their childhood. However, people say it is still essential to teach them proper safety education while kids are outdoors.

Several internet users called for safety concerns on videos of children walking on top of the pathway roof. Firstly, a viral video showed a young girl casually walking on top of a pathway roof. She seemed to not care about her risky situation while waking to her destination.

Those who watched the clip believe that the girl was trying to retrieve something on the roof or a nearby tree. While on the walkway roof, her playmates patiently waited for her below. A few moments later, the girl's playmates threw items upwards in her direction instead of the other way around.

The next clip displayed a different kid walking on the roof; it was a little boy. Below him, his playmates tried to throw a badminton racket at him. It seemed they wanted him to use it to get something on the roof.

The second clip raised more alarm than the first because the boy ran to the roof's edge. He then made a risky exit on the side of the pathway roof.

The person who took the video uploaded it on the Complaint Singapore Facebook page on the 8th of July 2022. According to the original poster, the incident happened in a Tampines Housing and Development Board car park.

"Sorry, can Tampines Town Council help to check the condition? It is next to the playground," said the original poster. "Worry it might collapse and injure the childcare toddlers. Right next to Sparkletots."

Netizens Voice Out Their Opinions

Several people on the internet did not fail to express their thought and opinion regarding the incident.

"Kids are kids. The thinking process is simple. Looking for fun is a default action. However, there should be some supervision," said one netizen.

Others added that people should not be quick to judge the scenario as they do not know the context. Some speculated that the children probably knew each other as part of a friend group.

Meanwhile, other social media users are curious about the layout of the car park as well as the playground. They wonder if these are made accessible for children to climb up to the roof.

Moreover, people believe parents should be responsible for educating their children instead of the authorities. Most of the comments called out the parents for failing to educate their kids on safe physical activities. They discouraged other users from pinning the blame on the authorities involved.

"Seriously, I don't understand why some comment mentioned the authority," said another commenter.

When it comes to promoting physical activities, we must arrange exercise for at least 60 minutes per day. Below, we listed 5 ways for parents to help their kids stay active:

  • Start early. Young kids love to enjoy playing and being physically active. As parents, it would be best to encourage them with lots of safe and unstructured movement and play. It could help them build a strong foundation for an active lifestyle.
  • Join them in staying active. The best way to teach children is through leading an active lifestyle yourself. Encourage more physical exercise by partaking in the activities you suggest to them.
  • Plan a fun-filled physical routine. Making physical activity part of your family's daily routine would be better. You can do as simple as taking family walks or playing active games together.
  • Travel to different places that promote physical activities. Aside from home, you can take your kids to places where they can be active. It includes public parks, community baseball fields, and basketball courts.
  • Make physical activity fun. Your children might enjoy it more if the activities are fun and exciting, whether structured or unstructured. Introduce them to the team and individual sports for variety. Aside from that, you can also try recreational activities such as walking, running, skating, bicycling, swimming, playground activities, or free-time play.
