For families deciding to embrace Singapore as a vacation ground during the December break, theAsianparent team has compiled a list of holiday programs to keep your kids occupied.

Sometimes, the conventional idea of going overseas for a break just isn’t cut out for everyone. You have so much to watch out for when you are on an overseas trip. You have to constantly check on your belongings, prevent the kids from falling ill by dosing them with Vitamin C, and keep an hawk’s eye on them at all times.  These are good enough reasons to make one stay put in Singapore.

But, what will the kids do with 6 weeks of school holidays?  Without school to take the edge off their energy levels, the kids might well drive you up the wall.  Luckily, holiday programs is a thriving business in Singapore.  If you’re shying away from the academic (let’s give the kids a break, you say), then check out our recommendations on holiday programs:

Big Canvas Painting For Little Ones by The Little Artist’s Art Studio – ages 5 to 15

Money-Game by Learning Horizon – ages 4 to 6

Mini-Chef by The Asian Food Channel – ages 7 to 12

Does your child like to eat?  Is he a Gordon Ramsay (host and head chef for the hit TV series, Master Chef) in the making?  If you are a family who enjoys bonding through food or cooking,  the Asian Food Channel (AFC) will be running a series of cooking classes this December holidays.

Parents and children can stir up some fun and laughter as they experiment, explore and discover new horizons in the kitchen.  In each class, AFC’s resident chefs will take families through a mix of fun and easy to make recipes that are  simple enough for the kids to try at home.

Kids can look forward to whipping up some homemade hot chocolate and a crunchy gingerbread house.

1001 Arabian Nights by ACT 3 International Drama Academy – ages 3 to 15

Give your child a chance to step into the rustic mystery of Middle Eastern tales this December.  The academy’s ‘1001 Arabian Nights’, is a series of five-day workshops for children.

Kids get to live out, role-play and produce tales based on middle-eastern stories such as the academy’s own version of Aladdin, The Fisherman and the Genie, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, The tale of King Shahriar and many other Arabian tales in the drama courses.

Through role-playing activities based on Middle Eastern tales , children will explore universal themes such as friendship , self –discovery , perseverance and courage.

Ino Kiyo by Learning Horizon – ages 3 to 6

Ino Kiyo is a Japanese tale of a puppet who was transformed into a human kid and her heroic adventures.  While the tale has similar attributes to the classical tale Pinocchio, there are some deviations in her adventures.

Kids will join Kiyo on her journey as she learns about honesty and perseverance.  They are expose to puppetry and will partake in activities that encourages communication, team building and social skills.
