Celebrating birthdays together is a given for most couples, but not for celebrity couple Qi Yuwu and Joanne Peh apparently.

Last year, the Chinese actor couldn’t spend his special day with wife (and local actress) Joanne because he had filming commitments in China while she herself was jetting around the world. Hence, they planned an earlier celebration.

But this year was special for Yuwu as he managed to celebrate his 43rd birthday on Saturday (Nov 28) with Joanne and their two children, and the actress was “thankful” to be able to do so.

Joanne, 36, uploaded a picture with her hubby to Instagram on Nov 29 where the couple was posing with a bowl of noodles that was presumably part of his birthday meal. The post was captioned “Always thankful to be able to celebrate @qiyuwu birthday in person!” and included snaps from what seems to be his various birthday celebrations.

Earlier this year, the couple had to spend some time apart when the Covid-19 pandemic worsened after Chinese New Year. The whole family was in Guangzhou (Yuwu’s hometown) for a nine-day trip and Yuwu returned to Singapore first while Joanne stayed behind with her kids to deal with some “personal matters”.

She told AsiaOne then that she missed her husband and wished her family could be together, but she was “keeping [her] spirits up”.

They were soon reunited in Singapore, and though Yuwu spent the past few months in Malaysia filming iQIYI drama The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang, it seems the shoot wrapped just in time for him to spend his birthday with his family this year.

The whole thing just goes to show that at the end of the day, nothing really beats spending time with the people you hold closest to your heart, and we are glad that the family was together for Yuwu’s special day.
