Q: I don’t have insurance yet. Should I buy before or after pregnancy?

A: Life insurance provides protection against the financial setback of unforeseen circumstances such as disability, critical illness or death. On the other hand, health insurance provides protection against the cost of hospitalisation and surgery. Buying a suitable health insurance for your needs is important to reduce the financial burden should you need to seek medical treatment.

You are encouraged to get yourself sufficiently covered even before you are pregnant. Some women may continue to experience their pregnancy-related conditions like gestational diabetes or pregnancy hypertension even after they have delivered their babies. This may make them uninsurable. Speak to your financial adviser representative. He/she will be able to make the recommendations based on your specific investment objectives, financial situation and particular needs.
