Infamous sex bloggers Alvin and Vivian are back

Just when everyone thought that they have faded into oblivion, infamous sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee are back in the public spotlight again. The couple had their 15 minutes of fame when their infamous blog detailing their sex life made headline news in the region. It looks like they are now trying to enjoy another 15 minutes of fame. This time, they are dishing out sex advice on a new YouTube channel.

How they became infamous

Alvin Tan Jye Yee was previously just a 24-year-old National University of Singapore (NUS) Law undergraduate and Asean scholar. His girlfriend was 23-year-old Vivian Lee. The Malaysian couple caused quite a brouhaha when their joint blog which contains explicit photos and videos of the couple went viral on the internet and attracted the media spotlight in Singapore and Malaysia.

Alvin Tan sparked further outrage among Singaporeans when he showed absolutely no remorse over his actions and displayed a defiant attitude when he infamously told the Straits Times “What can (NUS) do? Terminate my scholarship or expel me? His ungrateful attitude hit a raw nerve with many Singaporeans since the government’s foreign talent policy was already causing a lot of resentment among Singaporeans. Many Singaporeans put pressure on NUS to expel Alvin Tan with even local celebrities like Tay Ping Hui joining in by posting on twitter supporting the notion.

Apart from the backlash from the public, the couple also faced immense pressure from their families and were forced to shut down their blog. Furthermore, according to a report published on thestar website, Vivian also stated that “My parents were upset when they found out about it in the newspapers. I got the mother of all scoldings.” Despite the dire consequences the young couple faced in the aftermath of the huge scandal, they did not shy away from the media spotlight and it is becoming very apparent they enjoy being famous despite the fact that they are famous for all the wrong reasons.

YouTube personalities

While their time in the spotlight in the aftermath of their sex blog scandal did not last very long, the couple seem determined to reclaim their 15 minutes of fame. According to a report on the stomp website, the couple have now started a YouTube channel titled ’SexcussionsAlvivi’. According to their YouTube channel, their site is being marketed as ‘a weekly show where we talk about anything and everything related to sex.’ The reason why they set up the YouTube channel is supposedly because they want to encourage Singaporeans and Malaysians to become more open about topics and attitudes pertaining to sex. The channel currently contains 3 videos and in the first 2 videos, Alvin is topless while Vivan is seen wearing only a bra. The couple dish out advice on how to get laid in the first episode and tips for foreplay in the second episode. In the third episode, the couple are clothed and roaming around the streets interviewing ordinary Malaysians on their attitudes and preferences regarding sex. Their latest exploit has received significant media attention but it remains to be seen just how long more this infamous couple can maintain the media’s interest.

Moral issue

While Alvin and Vivan see nothing wrong with their brazen actions and repeatedly maintain that what they are doing is not harming anyone, they don’t realise that they are sending out a very wrong message to the youths out there. The couple are also known to be ‘swingers’ which mean that they regularly have sex with other couples. Their morals are also highly questionable as Alvin recently posted a tweet on twitter encouraging guys to go for girls who are already attached. Their loose attitudes about sex are also worrying as they are sending out the message that there is nothing wrong with premarital sex.

The biggest lesson we can learn from this case is that we should educate on children on proper morals and values and ensure that they are not led astray by people like Alvin and Vivian.

Tips on how to deal with your teenage children

1. Talk to them.
   The best way to find out what they are doing behind closed doors is to ask them. Don’t do it in an interrogative manner or else you might end up having an unnecessary argument with them. Sex may be a difficult topic to talk with your kids but it should not be avoided.
2. Educate them on the dangers of premarital sex
   If not, they might get misleading information from their friends instead.
3. Do not condemn them
   If you find out your child is sexually active do  not condemn them as this might push them further away from you. Instead concentrate on giving them good advice.
