An alert has been issued by The Office of the Commissioner of Charities (COC) about a woman behind a “milk blessing” group in Singapore, named Ian Free Milk Blessing Group. The Ian Free Milk Blessing Group alert is related to the fact that Ashlee Chua Jermaine (also known as Ashley Lee or Ian Ian) has cheated several people who raised money on crowdfunding platforms, says a Channel NewsAsia report.

Ian Free Milk Blessing Group Alert: Be Careful

The Facebook group Ian Free Milk Blessing currently has over 1,500 members. The group’s purpose is to help needy families who do not have the money to buy enough formula milk for their kids, or have kids with chronic or congenital diseases.

According to CNA quoting a press release by COC, “Ashlee allegedly cheated at least three beneficiaries of charity campaigns conducted on the GIVE.asia crowdfunding platform.” What’s more, these beneficiaries reported that Ashlee went missing after they transferred money to her.

Ashlee is alleged to be behind a fundraising appeal conducted by the Ian Free Milk Blessing group on GIVE.asia.

“The funds raised from the fundraising appeal were purportedly transferred to Ashlee, who has not provided any accountability on how these funds have been used,” said the COC.

Furthermore, CNA reports that “Ashlee has yet to comply with an order it issued under the Charities Act earlier this year for information about the Ian Free Milk Blessing Facebook group, and faces an offence for it.”

The Singapore Police is also reportedly investigating Ashlee for alleged criminal offences. She is also an undischarged bankrupt.

Now, the COC has barred her from any more fund-raising.

“The COC is satisfied that Ashlee is not a fit and proper person to conduct fundraising appeals for charitable, benevolent or philanthropic purposes and that it is in the public interest to prohibit Ashlee from conducting such fundraising appeals.

“The COC has therefore decided to prohibit Ashlee from conducting any fund-raising appeals with effect from Jun 29, 2018,” it added.

Investigations continue.
