Some suggest looking at the Internet for ideas when naming your newborn baby.

One couple from Bulacan, Philippines may have taken that advice literally and named their baby boy Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) Rayo Pascual.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (June 10), Sincerely Pascual uploaded a photograph of her baby nephew with the caption: “Welcome to the world, HTML.”

The post has gone viral with more than 12,000 reactions and close to 10,000 shares.

The proud aunt said her brother decided on the name ‘HTML’ due to his occupation as a web developer, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

In programming, HTML is a language used to explain the structure of a website – from how text, images and links appear on a web page.

Unique names run in the family — HTML’s dad is named Macaroni ’85, and his sisters are Spaghetti ’88 and Sincerely Yours ’98, Pascual added.

The publication also reported that the baby’s mother, Salie Rayo Pascual, is delighted to welcome her firstborn and their relatives were delighted by her baby’s name.

Some of the more interesting names in recent memory include Elon Musk’s first child X Æ A-12 and the Indonesian girl named ‘Y’.

While there are people who might find ‘HTML’ odd or unique among Filipino names, these parents had their reasons! Just as you may have your own personal reason for choosing a name for your baby.

If you have a baby on the way and still haven’t decided on a name, here are things you can consider:

  1. Don’t worry about using common or classic names. If you’re worried that the name you want might be too plain or dull, don’t stress over it too much. Especially if the name means something special to you and your spouse.
  2. You can look up your old family tree. You might be inspired to name your child after a loved one close to you or your spouse.
  3. Look up meanings of names you’re interested in. While it may not matter to some, a name’s meaning can be a special way to choosing a name for your baby.
  4. Think of a Plan-B, other possible nicknames. We know it’s already hard choosing a name but now you have to consider another? But knowing what nickname you want your child to have can help in making a final decision.
  5. Try saying it out loud. If you think a name doesn’t fit, you can say it out loud with your own mouth and see if it still sounds strange to your ears.
