Reading is the foundation that will give your child the ability to achieve anything in life. But some children may have trouble with this very pivotal stage in life. The best way to help your child with a reading problem, is to start helping them as soon as you notice there is a problem.

Identifying the reading problem
The first step to helping your child with their reading problem is to identify what exactly they are having a problem with. Many children will have problems with recognizing a letter and what type of sound it makes when put with other letters. Tackle this problem by starting out with simple books or flash cards that will elaborate on the sound of the letter.

Consult your child's teacher
Your child's teacher can let you know what type of reading problems they are having in school. The teacher can also point you in the right direction on whether your child may need tests done for hearing and dyslexia. This will give you more of an understanding in case there is an underlying problem that needs to be addressed.
Reading out loud
Reading out loud is a great way for your child to not only see the word, but also hear how it is supposed to sound. Your child will be able to hear how they are pronouncing the word in their own voice. This is a great way to spend some time with your child and still help with their reading problem.

Grab their interest
Let's face it, the only way to get kids to read is to make it interesting. So when you go to look for things to help with the reading problem, find books, magazines or other materials that involve what they like. Even if you do not like it, your child will and that is what matters.
