With more reports of the Omicron variant spreading all around the world, parents are constantly worrying and checking the number of new Covid-19 cases in Singapore.
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), there were a total of 3,496 new cases detected in the country as of Sunday (23 January).

As an increase of over 1,000 cases from those reported on Saturday, 22 January, the weekly Covid-19 infection growth rate has risen to 2.75 on Sunday. This was from 2.64 the day before.
Out of all the cases, there were 2,007 detected through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests. It comprised 1,577 local cases and 430 imported cases.
There were also 1,489 cases detected through antigen rapid tests (ART) with 1,480 locals and nine imported.
One death was also recorded, but MOH did not give any further information about this case.
Meanwhile, there are 433 patients hospitalised—29 of which needed oxygen supplementation and nine in the intensive care unit.
Overall, Singapore has a record total of 313, 772 Covid-19 cases as of 23 January 2022.

Update on Singapore’s Covid-19 Vaccination Programme
As of 22 January, 91 per cent of Singapore’s eligible population have completed their full vaccination regimen with 88 per cent of the total population. 91 per cent of the population have also received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose, as per MOH.
“The COVID-19 vaccination programme protects Singaporeans against COVID-19, as well as businesses and jobs through the progressive re-opening of Singapore,” wrote the ministry on its official website.
It added, “Getting vaccinated is a simple and effective way to prevent the disease, minimise the risk of transmission, and protect our healthcare system from being overwhelmed.”

What to know about booster shots
As the booster vaccination programme has also started, MOH noted that 55 per cent of the total population have already received their booster shots.
Parents may also consider getting a booster jab for further protection against Covid-19.
Here are a few things you should keep in mind when planning to receive a booster shot:
- You have to be aged 12 years old and above as well as have completed their primary vaccination series to be eligible for a booster shot.
- To book an appointment, you will receive an SMS with a personalised link to vaccine.gov.sg.
- Those aged 18 and up may choose to either receive the Pfizer-BioNTech/COMIRNATY vaccine or the Moderna vaccine. But persons aged 12 to 17 will only be offered the Pfizer-BioNTech/COMIRNATY for a booster shot.
- You do not receive the same vaccine you got for your other two doses.
- You should receive your booster shot no later than 270 days after the last dose you got.
