Safyre Terry of New York lost her father and three younger siblings to a fire. She was found next to her dad, who had shielded her with his own body. She suffered burns on over 75% of her body.

The arsonist-set fire cost Safyre her right hand and left foot and she still requires dozens of surgeries even after two years.

This Christmas,  Safyre only wants one thing — Christmas Cards for her tree.

Liz Dodler, Safyre’s paternal aunt takes care of her now, having sole custody.  The interest for Christmas card started when Dodler bought a tree to hang Christmas cards on. Dodler told Buzzfeed that Safyre was overjoyed with the idea of filling up the tree with Christmas cards.

Initially, Dodler was sceptic about the thought, “Hunny, that’s probably not gonna happen. We maybe get 10 cards a year, and the card tree holds 100.”

Despite her misgivings, Dodler went on Facebook, requesting for cards to be sent. The heartfelt request garnered countless support on social media and even sites such as reddit.com.

The outpouring of support definitely overshot both Dodler and Safyre’s expectations and wishes. Over US$80,000 has been sent in to cover Safyre’s medical bills and living expenses and mails have started coming in.
