So, a supposedly ‘gay moment’ in Disney’s movie remake of the Beauty and the Beast animation has caused much uproar, thanks to a gay character, manservant LeFou.

Church calls the gay moment “totally unnecessary”

According to Channel NewsAsia, Malaysia has already chopped off the “gay moment” and the movie is rated “adults-only” in Russia! It has meanwhile got a clean PG rating in Singapore, a move that has offended many.

Channel NewsAsia quotes the National Council of Churches Singapore (NCCS) as saying, “Some Christian leaders here are deeply concerned about the LGBT representation in this new Disney movie. They see this as an attempt to influence young children and socialise them at an early age into thinking that the homosexual lifestyle is normal. We would like our parents to be aware of this strand in the movie and its possible influence on their children who watch it, however subtle.”

The Roman Catholic Church of Singapore has also been quoted as saying that parents “must discern and reflect with their children on whether the lifestyle (shown in the movie) is consonant with the teaching of Christ. They must explain the implications and the consequences of such a lifestyle for themselves and society.”

As of now, we are not quite sure on what exactly this ‘gay moment’ is. Is it a kiss, a hug or just holding of hands?
