Did you know that the Fullerton hotel has a rich heritage? It is one of the principal landmarks of Singapore and is gazetted as Singapore's 71st National Monument.

Named after Robert Fullerton, the first Governor of the United Straits Settlements (1826 - 1830), the building was commissioned in 1919 as a part of the British colony's centennial celebrations. It was then the largest structure ever built in Singapore. The building housed services and organisations such as the General Post Office, the Exchange, the Singapore Club, the Marine Department and the Import and Export Department.
One of the most prominent things to remember about the Fullerton hotel is that on August 9 1965, Singapore's transition from colony to nation was celebrated at the Fullerton Square, beside Cavenagh Bridge. A host of political rallies by Lee Kuan Yew was held in this very building between 1965 to 1988. The building was placed under conservation in 1997, after the post office moved out the previous year. Then came the Fullerton Building's rebirth as the six-star Fullerton Hotel, in 2001.

The Rooms
Upon reaching the hotel, checking in was a breeze and in less than 10 minutes, one of the friendly and courteous staff was showing us to our room. We were thrilled to know that we had been given a room that had full view of the National Day rehearsal that was taking place later that evening. Imagine, fireworks from the comfort of a hotel room? What more could we ask?
The Straits Club Quay room was extremely cosy, aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. I especially loved how the dark wooden furniture contrasted against the light-coloured walls. Rich colonial heritage with a contemporary twist, perfect!
Also, if you choose the Straits Club Quay Room, you have access to the Straits Club Lounge for Champagne breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails - all on the house. Among other things, the room was inclusive of free local calls and internet connectivity.
The View
Here is the picturesque view from our room. True to what we had been told, we had a spectacular view of the parade rehearsal and fireworks. The kids were beyond excited!
The Bathroom
Now, knowing Singaporean mums, I'm sure you are curious to know what the bathroom looks like. I mean, when on a staycation, don't we all look forward to a nice bubble bath to wind down after the kids have gone to bed? Well, the Fullerton hotel has a gorgeous bathroom for you to enjoy!

Bigger room options
We had two older children and an infant, and were perfectly comfortable with the size of the room. However, if you have a big family, or would require more space for extra bedding for your older children, you can consider other options such as the Esplanade Room or the 6 types of suites that they have to offer.
Room Perks
When we entered the room, we found that the hotel had arranged for us to have a baby cot, along with a full set of baby toiletries. In addition, they had arranged on the work desk, an exciting spread for our children.
There were activity books, crayons, puzzles as well as complimentary ice cream passes for the boys. The activity book and puzzle was a great way to engage my older son, while the crayons made my younger boy happy. They felt grand and important to walk around with the passes around their necks.
The kids had their treats and the adults had our fair share too. There was a mini fridge stocked up with all the necessities as well as a snack counter.
Snacks, a great selection of TWG tea, as well as a Nespresso machine. There's something for everyone there I'm pretty sure.
We left our room for a bit and upon returning, a pleasant surprise was awaiting us.
Fresh fruits, a bottle of sparkling apple juice and a handwritten card from the hotel's general manager. This perked our evening up and I must say that the hotel ensured that we were well looked after, and fed round the clock!

Food, glorious food!
When we were done settling in and marvelling at our room, we made our way to the Straits Club Lounge to grab some snacks. And the children absolutely loved what was in store for them!
There was a perfect mix of sweet and savoury, with something to tickle everyone's fancy. Among other things were mini burgers, cucumber sandwiches, salmon quiches, pastries, apple strudels, cakes and muffins, as well as traditional Peranakan kueh mueh. There were also cookies, a jar full of sweets and chocolates and fresh fruit.
Clearly, the kids were pleased with their afternoon tea session. The lounge is also replete with historical books, magazines and pictures that provide room for discussion and to teach the kids a thing or two about Singapore's history. The ambience is wonderful, and the lounge connects to this gorgeous room.
Yes, this is part of the lounge and you can bring your food and drinks over. Wouldn't it make a perfect location for an afternoon tête-à-tête with your girlfriends?
Later in the evening, after watching the parade, we decided to explore our dining options. I mean, that's what staycations are all about isn't it? Resting, relaxing, pampering yourself and eating? Well, if you're considering taking the Fullerton Hotel Singapore family package, and are worried about what your kids are going to eat, dining options are aplenty in the vicinity.
Do note that your package entitles you to 30% off your a la carte food bill at all the hotel's restaurants after 6:30pm. While you're there, be sure to check out the Lighthouse Restaurant and Rooftop Bar. This gorgeous restaurant is perched at the very top of the Fullerton Hotel and it commands one of the most breathtaking views of Singapore's skyline and Marina Bay waterfront. The restaurant serves Italian cuisine.
For us, we decided to keep the Lighthouse restaurant for another time, and went for the swanky Town restaurant instead. We enjoyed a hearty dinner and the kids got to claim their free scoop of ice cream. And I must say, if you are a fan of local food, the popular local desert dessert 'Cheng Tng' that I had at the Town restaurant was heavenly!
The next morning, we headed back to the Town restaurant to enjoy our complimentary buffet breakfast. Do remember mums, the Fullerton Hotel Singapore family package entitles 2 adults and 2 children to free breakfast.
Breakfast was wonderful, as expected. We walked in to be greeted by a huge spread of gastronomical delights. There was a perfect mix of local delights and the usual western, contemporary breakfast cuisines. We ate to our hearts' content before heading back to our room to laze around for a bit before heading back.

E-Scooter Rental
After settling in, we headed over to the Merlion Park to redeem our complimentary 1-hour E-scooter rental ticket. The boys had a great time zooming around on the scooter, while I sat by the water and admired the breathtaking, scenic view of the heart of our beautiful garden city.
