Free healthcare for NorthLight School students and family members

That has been made possible by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Monday between the school and SATA CommHealth.

Beneficiaries will also receive flu, typhoid and Hepatitis A and B vaccinations free of charge at any of the four SATA Medical Centres across Singapore.

The MOU makes NorthLight the single largest beneficiary of the initiative, with a third of its students benefitting.

SATA CommHealth has so far provided the service to about 700 students and families from five other schools, bringing the total to almost 1,500 beneficiaries.

SATA CommHealth said beneficiaries will receive a SATA Healthcare Card which entitles them to the free medical services without any hassle.

Dr K Thomas Abraham, CEO of SATA CommHealth, said: “When we talked to the Principal Mrs Chua of NorthLight, she told us that there are many students from the lower income bracket. So we thought that would be a great opportunity for us to serve this group of students and their family members.”

Mrs Chua-Lim Yen Ching, principal of NorthLight School, said: “The students gave us feedback that whenever their family members are sick and not receiving necessary medical treatment, it has affected them, their attendance and their performance in school.

“This will actually help the families be more proactive in looking after themselves (and seeking the necessary treatment) and above all, it’s going to have a substantial amount of savings in terms of healthcare.”
