Remember the trend of the fish foot massage that hit Singapore in 2009? The one where you put your legs in an open aquarium and the fish swim around your feet, eating dead and dry skin at the ankles, feet and toes.
Well, now there are reports that fish spas could cause the spread of diseases. According to Dr. Amin Al Amiri, from the Ministry of Health of the Arab Emirates,”The use of this fish threatens the health because it can spread many serious diseases and the virus causes inflammation liver, even HIV / AIDS. “

“Some people are carrying the disease can be dangerous in the open wounds, and passed to others through the intermediary of the fish and water,” said Al Amiri.
Fish Spas have been popular in many countries, including Singapore, the US and the UK. However, many states in both the US and UK have now banned this controversial type of spa. The Spa Association Singapore has said that banning fish-spa treatments is the way to go and it did not encourage its members here to provide the service for safety and hygiene reasons.
