Kidz Haven is a newly-opened learning centre that aims to help children get ready for Primary School. It was launched by PAP Community Foundation at its centre in Boon Lay. According to The Straits Times, more than 250 kids are enrolled at this time and they are the first to experience this new method of teaching.
In this teaching method, skills are taught through hands-on approach and interactive play. This means that, instead of learning things the traditional way, they learn them by doing. Experiential learning is encouraged over simply memorising facts. To cater to this new style of teaching, the foundation’s new school boasts an art room, gym, kitchen, drama studio and other high-quality facilities.
This is definitely a wonderful initiative by the PCF. Experiential learning should be promoted all across the country as kids, being at a developmental stage of growing and maturing, learn things better when they are working on it hands-on. Rote memorisation is definitely not all bad, although it shouldn’t be the sole or primary method for teaching.
