From December 2020, every Singaporean aged 18 and above will receive S$100 worth of local tourism vouchers which can be spent on booking local hotel stays, attraction tickets and tours, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Wednesday (Sept 16).
This move comes after Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat announced in August that the Government would be giving out S$320 million worth of vouchers to encourage Singaporeans to support local tourism businesses.
In addition, the government will also provide a S$10 subsidy for child and youth tickets in visits to attractions and tours, STB said. Each person can purchase up to six children or youth tickets at these subsidised prices.

These SingapoRediscovers vouchers will be given out via the SingPass government portal in denominations of S$10 and are valid for use between December 2020 and end of June 2021.
More details on how to redeem them will be announced in November.
While the public can expect to redeem the vouchers digitally via SingPass, STB said that it will provide support to those facing difficulties in accessing the platform digitally.
“This is not a social assistance scheme. This is an economic scheme to help our tourist attractions to preserve their capabilities that have been built up over the years, while they consolidate capacity in the interim,” said Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing while speaking to reporters at Jurong Bird Park on Wednesday.
“To date, over 200 attractive deals and bundled packages have been launched to encourage locals to explore different precincts and aspects of life of Singapore,” wrote STB in a statement.

Safe Management Measures
Apart from existing efforts to help tackle cases of infection such as introducing online booking systems, STB said that their preparation of response plans to handling infection cases, engaging in detailed cleaning and sanitisation regimes have also been effective at preventing, dispersing crowds, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
In light of attraction operators demonstrating “good compliance” with safe measurement measures thus far, operators can also apply to STB to increase their operating capacity in outdoor shows, in addition to taking in more visitors.
The capacity at outdoor shows can be scaled up to accommodate a maximum of 250 people instead of the current maximum of 50 people.
Here, a maximum of five zones will be set up, with 50 people in one zone, subject to safe management measures.
“STB will continue to conduct enforcement checks to ensure that attractions can implement the necessary SMMs (safe measurement measures) effectively even with larger capacity limits,” STB wrote.
