Facilities

This workshop focuses on issues of anticoagulation in pregnancy, and is targeted at obstetricians, haematologists, cardiologists, general physicians and nurses involved in the care of pregnant women. While the issues of venous thromboembolism in pregnancy, such as diagnosis, investigation, treatment, prophylaxis will be addressed, the programme will include controversial areas such as thrombophilia as well as the management dilemmas posed in cases of pregnant mothers with cardiovascular disease, in particular those with prosthetic heart valves. We are fortunate to have Prof Chan Wee Shian, an obstetric physician who has done extensive research in venous thromboembolism in pregnancy as well as anticoagulation in heart disease, and has come to Singapore to share her experience in this difficult domain of maternal medicine. With a combined faculty from both the departments of Haematology and Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we hope that this workshop provides a stimulating platform for discussion and sharing across clinical disciplines involved in looking after women.
