Earth Hour 2019 in Singapore

Every year millions of people celebrate Earth Hour around the globe. Earth Hour is an annual environmental campaign that brings attention to the effects of climate change by asking people to switch off lights at their homes and businesses for an hour. It is usually observed on the last Saturday of March.

Celebrate Earth Hour at City Square Mall

City Square Mall invites everyone to join in the annual Earth Hour celebration as the mall counts down to an hour of lights-off on 30 March 2019, at the B1 Fountain Square.

Here are some fun activities they have planned:

Roadshow and Water Wally Appearance

In collaboration with the Public Utilities Board (PUB), shoppers can make a pledge to save water at the water conservation roadshow together with Water Wally, who will be making a special guest appearance from 5pm to 8pm at hourly intervals.

Roadshow Time: 4.30pm – 8.30pm

Bottle Piggy Bank Making Workshop

Do your part to help recycle by creating your very own DIY piggy bank from recycled bottles, at the Bottle Piggy Bank Making Workshop. Shoppers who register at the venue will be provided with recycled bottles and other materials to customise their personal piggy banks.

Quiz and Countdown

Challenge yourself in a water conservation quiz before the lights go off, and stand a chance to win attractive prizes!

In support of Earth Hour, and as part of City Square Mall’s commitment to environmental sustainability, lights of selected areas around the mall and other non-essential lights will then be switched off for an hour from 8.30pm.

Japanese Department store Takashimaya is running a Love The Earth campaign from Monday 25th of March to Tuesday 30th of April.

The green campaign features a series of in-store recycling, upcycling initiatives, showcase and retail of eco-friendly products, lifestyle activities and partnerships with international and local green warriors.

Love The Earth campaign features talks, exhibition and fitness programs, which will be held storewide from Mon 25 Mar to Tue 30 Apr 2019. Throughout the store, thoughtfully designed booths will touch on everyday items sold at the department store providing a range of eco-friendly, green products by brands that are committed to critical environmental and social causes.

100% of the proceeds generated from the Love The Earth campaign, sales from pop-up booths and exhibitions during the month-long festival will be donated to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Throughout the campaign, customers spending a minimum of $50 at the Food Hall will be able to collect their free water bottle – a simple yet important initiative to encourage zero waste and adoption of reusable bottles culture.

Lights Out, Green's In at PARKROYAL on Pickering

PARKROYAL on Pickering has introduced various sustainability initiatives in support of Earth Hour 2019 in Singapore:

The various sustainability initiatives include:

  • Encouraging guests to switch off non-essential lights at PARKROYAL on Pickering from 8.30-9.30pm on Earth Hour 2019
  • Encouraging guests to pledge SGD1 (or any amount) to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Singapore to support their sustainability efforts
  • Introduction of a ‘Green on the Go’ pop-up stall just outside Lime Restaurant, where the ever-popular plant-based Beyond Burger will be sold at an introductory price of SGD13.80 nett.

  • Furthermore, PARKROYAL on Pickering will provide a complimentary serving of Lime’s signature Lemenade (up to 330ml) for those who bring along their own reusable cups.
  • Introduction of a new plant-based a-la-carte menu featuring dishes such as Beyond Burger, Fishless Fish and Chips, Wasabi Crab Meat Ball, and Coconut Chocolate Mousse Cake with Lemon Lime Sorbet, which will make its debut on Earth Day (22 April 2019)

TikTok Supports Earth Hour 2019 in Singapore

TikTok, the world’s leading short video platform, will be partnering Earth Hour Singapore to launch the #SGEarthHour2019 challenge, with the aim of raising awareness on the important role of nature in everyday life.

As part of the challenge, TikTok is introducing special customised stickers, which users can use in conjunction with Earth Hour.

Local pop icons, influencers and creators have used these stickers in their videos to lend support for the campaign, including the likes of rapper and environmental advocate Kevin Lester, also known as The Lion City Boy, and more.

TikTok users in Singapore will be able to use the special Earth Hour stickers from March 28 by uploading their TikTok videos with the hashtag #SGEarthHour2019.
