We took the Dyson V8 Fluffy for a spin to check out their new super-powered motor and see how the performance stands up against our current products. Here’s our take on their latest product.

Compact and cordless for great manoeuvrability

Compact and cordless are two easy-sell feats when it comes to choosing vacuum cleaners. Fantastically engineered, the Dyson V8 Fluffy only has parts that are essential to getting the job done – allowing it to be light and compact, making it very manoeuvrable.

There is also no need to worry about long, and tangling cords (which also cause restrictions in your vacuum’s reach) because the Dyson V8 is cordless. This feature allows for the vacuum to be functional even when far from a power source like the outdoors, or even cleaning your cars. In short, you can use it where it is needed without being bound by cords or cables.

Better battery life

But as with any cordless device, this vacuum’s operational runtime relies mainly on how much juice is in its battery.

Dyson promises up to 40 minutes of runtime with the V8. True enough, a test run using normal mode with a non-powered attachment lasted for nearly 40 minutes.

However, some of its features, like the motorised cleaning attachments, require more power resulting in a much shorter run time.

There’s also the Max mode which allows for a more powerful suction for more difficult dirt. The only downside to using this mode is that it drains the V8’s battery faster than using it with self-powered heads, and much faster than when using it with the suction-only accessories.

These functions cut the vacuum’s runtime by up to 50 percent.

Wide range of attachments

Speaking of accessories, The Dyson V8 Fluffy comes with seven modular cleaning attachments – making this vacuum cleaner the ultimate device in keeping every nook and corner of your home clean.

One of its main tools is the direct-drive cleaner head which has a powerful motor located inside the brush bar. The motor allows the vacuum cleaner head’s bristles to remove ground-in dirt from carpets, as well as fine dust from hard surfaces.

The Complete Set

  • Soft roller cleaner head
  • Combination tool (for dust and debris)
  • Rigid crevice tool (for hard-to-reach surfaces)
  • Mattress tool
  • Up top tool (twists to give multiple angles for higher surfaces such as shelves and cupboard tops)
  • Elbow joint tool (for rigidity at multiple angles)

The set includes a docking station which can be wall-mounted. This allows for easy storage of the vacuum cleaner and easy charging too!

Super suction power

Ultimately, a vacuum’s performance is measured by how great its suction power is, and that is determined by the motor the vacuum cleaner is using.

Unfortunately, not all motors are created equal. Some vacuum cleaners use small motors so that the device can be cordless and hand-held, and this often leads to weaker suction performance. On the other hand, some, like the V8 Fluffy, use big, heavy motors to provide great suction power which eventually compromises the machine’s versatility.

The V8 Fluffy uses Dyson’s digital V8 motor which is so powerful that it can spin at up to 110,000 revolutions per minute. It also comes with a fade-free suction feature which means the suction power starts strong and remains strong until the battery is completely drained. All these features are packed in a compact motor which weighs just 2.63kg.

With the V8 Fluffy’s great suction power, versatile vacuum heads, and its compact size, dust and dirt have no place to hide in your home (or cars!).
