What’s hell on the outside but heaven on the inside? You guessed it – it’s none other than durians. Known for its bittersweet, custardy taste and creamy texture, durian lovers ubiquitously agree that it’s known as the king of fruit for all the right reasons.

Having said that, the king of fruit can come at a price, especially if like me, you like to indulge in premium durians. but I recently discovered that all this while, I’ve been overpaying for my durian fix. Turns out, you can enjoy premium durians at a good deal if you go to the right place. Here’s what I found out!

Singaporeans and Durians, A Greater Love Story Than Twilight

Whether you love it or hate it, if you’re a Singaporean, you would know about our country’s unbridled passion for durians. I mean, which other country has a national monument in the shape of a durian? But it’s not just the Esplanade, really.

Did you know that more durians are sold in Singapore per capita, than anywhere else¹? We are also Malaysia’s largest export market for durians²!

Singaporeans love it and will stop at nothing to get their durian fix. Take a drive along Tanjong Katong road and you will see a host of brightly lit durian stalls, with vendors fiercely battling to attract customers.

Durian lovers are happy to stop at the side of the road, never mind the parking inconvenience, and enjoy sinking their teeth into the soft, creamy flesh of the durian. I’m one of those people, and I’m sure many of you are as well!

A Great Price to Pay for a Great Love?

Good things do come at a price, there’s no denying that. But the price of durians has been increasing rather steeply over the last few years. While durian fans remain undeterred, it does concern me that I’m paying such a premium price! This is especially so for the Mao Shan Wang durian, which we know is the king of kings!

In Singapore, the price of Mau Shan Wang durian has increased by 200% in recent years³! And apart from the occasional plunge in price due to surprise bumper crops, the price is expected to rise even more.  Some reasons include demand exceeding supply, bad weather hitting harvest and labour, and rising costs of fertilisers.

But guess what I discovered? There are other factors that contribute to the price of durians as well and you can actually enjoy premium durians at less than premium prices. Here’s why!

Premium Durians without the Premium Price Tag – Sounds Good?

I recently discovered that for most regular durian suppliers, it takes several steps to sell durians. Suppliers purchase durians in mass from harvesters and then sell them at a profit to sub-agents who then sell the durians to retail shops. The retail shops sell durians to consumers like you and me, at a high-profit margin. Therefore, we end up paying a premium price.

In contrast, Durian Sg Prime, is the cheapest durian delivery service in Singapore as they directly collaborate with plantations and bring fresh durians to sell to us at the best prices!

This means that we constantly enjoy premium durians at a price that is 20 to 30% cheaper than any reputable durian seller in Singapore. Given that my entire family (kids included) loves durian, this makes a great difference in how much I spend!

How Durian Sg Prime Makes Premium Durian Delivery Affordable

It’s not just a one-off discount I’m talking about. Durian Sg Prime takes specific action to ensure that you enjoy their durians at a cheaper price. Believe it or not, Durian Sg Prime aims to bring durian prices in Singapore back to what they were in the 1980s!

To achieve this, they operate on a business model of bringing in large quantities of durian supplies from Pahang. They leverage on large quantities to outbid other countries and negotiate with plantation owners to only supply their limited durian stocks to us here in Singapore, at a much cheaper price. Instead of selling the durians at a premium price and reaping the profits, Durian Sg Prime shares it with customers in the form of coupons, free delivery, discounts and so on.

Durian Sg Prime is also very transparent about its business model. They have monthly milestones on the number of durians they bring in, and this is reflected on their website.

Furthermore,  they share publicly how their prices compare to other sellers in general. These figures are taken daily and updated weekly, and made known to the general public, so durian lovers like you and me know that they are committed to their goal of selling durians at a cheaper price.

Fresh, and Great Tasting Durians

In addition, the quality of durians from Durian Sg Prime is always ensured. Durian Sg Prime is the first to sell these grade “A”, best Pahang mountain origin durians, and not durians from any other normal plantations. These are truly premium quality durians that have a higher meat yield than regular durians and are fresh because they come directly from the supplier. There’s no middleman involved to delay this process or to reap profit from your wallet!

Furthermore, the durian trees are grown naturally around the fertile mountainous environment where the plantations are located. Unlike most of the sellers here that sell normal Mao Shan Wang, Durian Sg Prime sells only Old Tree Mao Shan Wang durians.

As any durian lover would know, durians from older trees taste better and the Mao Shan Wang trees here are over 40 years old. In fact, they even have a 100-year-old Ah Gong durian tree! As such, these durians have a stronger flavour, better texture and creamier flesh.

Old Tree Mao Shan Wang is usually more expensive than the normal Mao Shan Wang but Durian Sg Prime sells it to you at the same price, or even cheaper than those selling regular Mao Shan Wang!

That’s a deal I definitely don’t want to miss out on!

Don’t Say We Never Say!

As an avid durian fan, it was a pleasant surprise for me and my family when we discovered Durian Prime Sg and discovered that we had been overpaying for durians all this while.
