Even with travelling still put on hold during these times, you can still get that same “overseas” feeling of being abroad through a fun and fulfilling seacation!

If you were already planning a staycation to enjoy a bit of relaxation and unwinding with the kids, why not make it even more special and change things up by hopping aboard a cruise ship. Experience fine dining, entertainment and great accommodation while also being only one step away from the fresh breeze of sea air.

But before you go and start booking the closest cruise, here a few tips and reminders on planning your next seacation.

Tips On Planning Your Seacation With The Whole Family

1. Safety first!

Of course, with our current COVID-19 situation in Singapore and around the world, it is important that we remain vigilant even during a family vacation.

Most cruise lines include in their fees a COVID-19 antigen rapid tests for their passengers. So before hopping aboard, expect a few safety regulations as passengers must be tested and certified negative. Also, be ready for the usual SafeEntry or TraceTogether scans as you board the cruise ship.

MICE pods, which are given to cruise passengers above the age of 7, are used for Safe Management Measures adherence and contact tracing purpose.

Each passenger aged 7 years old and above will be issued a MICE Pod that serves as a contract tracer, very much like the TraceTogether app but for cruises. These pods are to be collected before they are allowed on board the ships.

Cruise ships docked in Singapore provide assessment and isolation rooms for passengers suspected to have COVID-19. The World Dream by Dream Cruises, for instance, has converted 7 of their cabins near their onboard medical facility as isolation wards as well as 34 quarantine cabins in the event of a positive COVID-19 case is detected.

2. Save room for more

When booking for your next seacation, it’s important to consider the accommodations your family is going to stay in for your entire trip.

For example, Dream Cruises’ World Dream offer a range of cabin types available to accommodate any family need or size. They are:

  • Interior Stateroom that’s good for 2 to 4 persons and despite its simplicity, can already provide you with the comfort and convenience you’re going to need for your trip.
  • Balcony Stateroom & Balcony Deluxe Stateroom can provide an even more spacious area for families of 4 with your very own private balcony to take in the endless ocean view.
  • Palace Suite & Palace Deluxe Suite which are both perfect for parties of 4 with their queen-sized beds with luxury linens for absolute comfort during your stay.
  • Palace Penthouse is complete with a private balcony, a luxurious bathroom and 24-hour dedicated Butler Concierge Service.
  • Palace Villa is the largest and most luxurious room you could book with a large bedroom as well as a separate living room complete with a dining area and a dedicated personal butler.

3. Don’t forget to check out the cruise’s activities and attractions

What makes a seacation so great is that you’re only one doorstep away from the cruise’s amazing attractions and fun activities.

Cruise ships are built to provide a wide range of amenities and activities such as swimming pools, waterslides, arcades, maybe even a mini-golf area, make sure you check out as much as you can during your stay to make your seacation worthwhile.

Since you’re also bringing the kids along, do check out whether the cruise you’re booking is kid-friendly and includes recreational activities for them to enjoy like a Kids’ Club. So that while the kiddos are enjoying their own playtime, you can have some much-needed adult break time yourself.

4. Make the most of your stay

Many of us can relate to the feeling of not wanting our vacations to end knowing what’s waiting for us when we return home (read: work and other responsibilities). But it’s still important to consider how long you’re going to be gone for and how many days you’re going to need for your stay to be worthwhile.

While an extended stay could give you enough time to explore all of the cruise’s activities and attractions, it may not be easy to plan such a long trip especially with work and school waiting for your return.

A short trip may give you a bit of a travel burnout with such a jam-packed schedule, but it could also motivate you to visit as many attractions on the cruise as possible during your stay. Aside from paying less, shorter trips are more convenient and could help you come up with a more comprehensive plan for your seacation.

5. Sail away!
