Do Asian parents push kids too hard or does it stifle talent?

As Asian parents do we push our children too hard to foster talent that we expect them to have?

Little Michael Jackson with the Jackson Five, belting out The Miracles’ ‘Who’s Lovin’ You’. Mattie. Stepanek’s poetry that filled books and touched the hearts of many. Such talent at such a young age is admired, celebrated and even envied at times.

However, what goes on when a child is blessed with talent? Is he pushed beyond his ability?

In Asia, children learn the piano or any other musical instrument, are signed up for a certain sports related game and are busied with numerous ‘self-growth’ classes, all before hitting Primary 1! (I’m living proof of that!)

As Asian parents do we push our children too hard to foster talent that we expect them to have? We are all aware of Michael Jackson’s childhood but when we find our child with a tiny seed of talent, do we turn into Joe Jackson ourselves?
