Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and love is in the air! What better time to share stories of trust, commitment and hope?

Singaporean mother of two, and blogger, Angie.S, shares how deeply she and her husband love each other. Their bond has only grown from strength to strength over the years…

How they met

“We got to know each other through a Christian ICQ online chat group, back in 1997, when the internet was a much safer place. I didn’t have any romantic feelings for David initially, but after 2 years of knowing each other, I said yes. It turned out to be one of THE best life decisions I’ve ever made.”

Valentine’s Day

Is there a Valentine’s Day memory you cherish the most?

“Well, Valentine’s Day is never a lavish event for us. When we were courting, we would try to meet up for dinner after work, and I would handcraft little scrapbook gifts for him as keepsakes. He would usually reciprocate with flowers, which he knew I loved.

I think my fondest and most memorable V-Day memory was on 14 Feb 1999, as that was the day we got engaged in Church, with our Pastors as witnesses.”

So, how has Valentine’s Day changed after kids?

“V-day after kids came along is significantly different. It requires more advanced planning, we have to ‘outsource’ the kids to their grandmother, so we can sneak out for time alone with each other.”

Sounds like something most parents would relate to!

“Once he even pre-mailed postcards from abroad,

Love is caring for each other

What do you adore most about your husband?

“David is the most loving and thoughtful husband I could ever ask for. His love language is ‘acts of service’. He massages my neck and shoulders when he knows I’ve had a long day at work. He brings the kids out for morning walks and breakfasts, so I can sleep in on weekends.

He loves to surprise me by whipping up new dishes and taking me to spontaneous musical dates. Whenever he would go overseas on business, he would pre-record video messages on his laptop, and have me and the kids view one new message each day. Once he even pre-mailed postcards from abroad, so I could receive one postcard from him every day until he returned!”

That’s so sweet! We can’t help but go “Awww…!”

Love will find a way

So has it been all sugary, or were there times when you struggled to pull through?

“Our marriage went through many trying periods. In 2007, I was warded for 3 months in KK Hospital, trying to save my twin IVF pregnancies. During my hospitalisation, I was put on Complete Rest in Bed (CRIB).

To give me moral support, David slept on the cold, hard hospital floor every night. Despite having the best medical care and intervention, we lost our twins eventually – one to stillbirth, and the other passed away in the NICU.

If it weren’t for God’s grace and His love which He poured into our lives for each other, we wouldn’t be here, happily married today. These trying moments cemented our love and commitment for each other as husband and wife. For as long as I live, I will love you David!”

Thank you, for sharing your beautiful story with us, Angie.S, and congratulations on being such a rock-solid couple! Love is indeed all about sticking with each other through your ups and downs, and finding beauty, even in imperfection.
