The daughter kidnapped message that has been circulating in Singapore is a scam, said the Singapore Police Force.

The message, being sent out as SMS, is sure to freak every parent out. It looks like this:

"I kidnap your daughter. If you want your daughter safe, bank in $500,000 to my account now."

"If you report police, I will rape your daughter."

A POSB Savings account number is also mentioned for money transfer.

On Facebook, yesterday, the Singapore Police Force clarified that it was a scam. They have also advised on what to do in case you receive such messages.

SPF wrote, "The Police have received numerous reports from members of the public informing that they have received SMSes citing their loved ones had been kidnapped. The SMSes also asked for money to be transferred to a bank account to ensure the safety of their loved ones."

"Members of the public are advised to adopt the following measures:

a. Remain calm and do not transfer any money as instructed by the SMSes;
b. Contact your loved one immediately to confirm their safety;
c. Do not reply to the SMS. Block and report the number as spam."

"If you wish to provide any information relating to such cases, please call the Police hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit information online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. Please dial ‘999’ if you require urgent Police assistance."
