While the battle against the coronavirus (COVID-19) is still on, it’s important to remind ourselves that we are stronger if we fight the virus together.
Jacob Neo, a 12-year-old boy from Fairfield Methodist Primary School have composed an original song in response to COVID-19, hoping to help Singaporeans pull through this period of fear and uncertainty.
The song, titled ‘Singapore, Unite as One‘ was written in two days by the student songwriter—both its lyrics and melody.
“I wrote this song as I wish to encourage the healthcare workers to press on, the COVID-19 patients to stay strong and to my fellow Singaporeans – Unite as One!” wrote Jacob.
Interestingly, it was revealed that Jacob had no formal music education outside school. He was only introduced to songwriting in 2019 as part of learning in the General Music Programme (GMP), getting his hands on digital music software, GarageBand.
Still, that did not stop him from creating a masterpiece that is just so inspirational.
The ‘crowns’ are invading us,
What can we do, this is agony
As one country we’ll fight this virus and win
We’ll fight with our hearts and our minds and our souls
Protecting this island where we call our home
Alongside Jacob in the video are other students from Fairfield Methodist School who also have performing parts. All have gathered to show their support and gratitude to all the healthcare workers working at the frontline.
Apart from the touching song written, the students had also gifted hampers consisting of snacks, tonics, hand creams and medicated patches to the NUH healthcare family.
Kudos to these creative and big hearted young ones!
