COVID-19: My First Skool centre in Sengkang To Temporarily Close After Teacher Tests Positive

A teacher at a My First Skool centre in Sengkang tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the centre at 295A Compassvale Crescent will be closed for cleaning and disinfection until 21 April.

Another preschool centre, this time a My First Skool centre in Sengkang, was ordered a temporary closure after a teacher tests positive for COVID-19, the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) said.

The teacher at the campus located at 295A Compassvale Crescent was last in the centre on 7 April.

To cover the 14-day incubation period, the My First Skool centre in Sengkang will be closed from Wednesday (15 April) to 21 April.

According to ECDA,  the preschool will undergo a thorough cleaning and disinfection, and all staff and children will be put on a leave of absence during the temporary closure.

My First Skool centre in Sengkang to reopen on 22 April

Barring any new developments, the centre will reopen on 22 April to serve parents who are working in essential services and are unable to find alternative care for their children, following the suspension of school operations since the start of the implementation of the “circuit breaker” measures on 8 April.

The agency said it will continue to the situation and work with the school, staff, parents and the children who attend the centre.

This is the 6th preschool centre to be ordered temporary closure after a teacher or a student tested positive for COVID-19 since April.

A pupil at E-Bridge Preschool in Jurong West tested positive for COVID-19 on 8 April, forcing a week of a temporary closure of the preschool centre at 140 Corporation Drive.

On the same day, in a separate case, a teaching staff at a preschool centre run by My First Skool in Ang Mo Kio was also reported to have tested positive for COVID-19, which led to it being closed for two weeks.

Update on total number of cases

On Tuesday (14 April), Singapore reported another 334 new cases of COVID-19 infection. This includes a 13-month-old male Singapore citizen who tested positive for the virus on Monday (13 April). He was since admitted to the National University Hospital (NUH). According to the Ministry of Health (MOH) the child is a local-linked case to a family member who was among the previously announced cases.

As of noon of Tuesday, Singapore has reported 3,252 coronavirus cases, of which 611 have recovered. 10 have died due to complications from the virus infection.
