The Ministry of Health (MOH) reports that a one-month-old baby is among the recent community cases in Singapore. Aside from Covid-19 found in babies, three students from Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School, Canberra Secondary School and Endeavour Primary School have also been infected.
The 13 new community cases were reported on Saturday (5 June) and six more the following day on 6 June, as per updates from MOH.
One-Month-Old And Three Students Among New Infected Community Cases
1. One-month-old baby
Among cases of Covid-19 in babies, a one-month-old infant has recently been confirmed to have tested positive for infection. According to MOH, the baby boy is both a family member and household contact of three community cases as well as a family member of two other cases. He was placed on quarantine on 24 May.
The baby developed a fever on 26 May. But when he was tested for Covid-19, his results came back negative. On Friday (4 June), he was tested again during quarantine and his test results came back positive for infection the following day.
MOH adds the one-month-old’s serology test result is still pending.
2. Student from Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School
A 13-year-old girl who attends Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday. She was last at school on 18 May.
Back in 29 May, the student developed anosmia (loss of smell) but did not immediately seek medical treatment. It was only on 4 June, when she went to visit a General Practitioner (GP) clinic to be tested for Covid-19. She received her test result the day after and it was confirmed that she was infected.
The young girl’s serology test result is still pending.
3. Student from Canberra Secondary School
Another 13-year-old student from Canberra Secondary School has been reported to be among the new community cases. The boy was last in school on 18 May.
MOH says he is a family member and household contact of three positive cases as well as a household contact of one other infected case. Due to this, the boy was placed under quarantine on 25 May.
During quarantine, the boy was tested for Covid-19 on Friday and his test results came back positive on Saturday. He also developed a sore throat that day. Meanwhile, his serology test rest is still pending.
4. Student from Endeavour Primary School
A 10-year-old boy from Endeavour Primary School has also tested positive for Covid-19. The student was last at school on 18 May.
Similarly to the Canberra Secondary School student, the 10-year-old is a family member and household contact of three cases as well as a household contact of another positive case. He was also quarantined on 25 May.
On 4 June, the boy developed a cough and was tested for Covid-19. His test result came back positive for infection the following day. His serology test result on the other hand is pending.

- When infected with Covid-19, babies are more likely to develop breathing issues with respiratory virus infections.
Due to their immature immune systems and much smaller airways, babies under a year might be at a higher risk of severe illness when infected, as compared to older children. - Even newborn babies can be infected with Covid-19. A newborn may be exposed to the virus during childbirth or by contact with sick caregivers after being born.
- It is best to keep a reasonable distance from your baby if you have been tested positive for Covid-19. This can greatly help lower the risk of transmitting the virus to your baby.
