COVID-19: 884 New Cases Reported, Total Now At 24,671

The new cases bring the total number of coronavirus-related infections here to 24,671.

Singapore reported 884 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday (12 May) with the vast majority involving work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its preliminary daily update.

Of this, three are Singaporeans or permanent residents.

According to MOH, more details of the new cases will be announced later in the day.

Total number of COVID-19 cases and deaths

The new cases bring the total number of coronavirus-related infections here to 24,671.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s death toll from the virus is at 21.

On Monday, a 68-year-old male Singapore citizen, has passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection. He was confirmed to have the virus infection on 5 April, and had a history of hypertension and hyperlipidaemia. MOH said the National University Hospital (NUH) has reached out to his family and is extending assistance to them.

On Saturday prior, a 53-year-old Indian national also died after suffering a cardiac arrest before later testing positive. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection and was identified as Case 23550 on 10 May after his demise. The cause of death is ruptured myocardial infarction due to coronary thrombosis.

According to MOH, there are currently 1,093 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Most of the patients are stable or improving, while 24 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit. 19,448 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19. 21 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

As of Monday, 3,218 patients in Singapore have fully recovered from the virus and been discharged.
