Are cartoons from the 90’s a better choice of entertainment for kids nowadays ?
New-age cartoons seem to “prep” kids for the next stage of their lives - “Teen hood”
This is because new-age cartoons contain dollops of glamour, teenage humor and ridiculous chaos. Unlike programs broadcasted for kids these days, cartoons from the 90’s were designed for kids to live in the moment. The essence of childhood and its experience were heightened with old-school cartoons.
Would kids be better off watching old-school cartoons? Which of your favorites would you love to bring back for children?
Here are a few titles to kick start the nostalgia:
1.) Banana Man
Eric is an average boy who lives an incredible double life. Whenever he eats a banana, he turns into Banana Man! As Banana Man, Eric has to fight against the evil plots of Dr Gloom. Crow is Banana Man's best buddy.
2.) Captain Planet
Gaia, Goddess of the Earth, calls upon 5 teenage kids from around the world to help save the earth and promote environmentally friendly activities. Each teenager was given a special ring, with the forces of earth, fire, wind, water and heart. They combine the powers of all 5 rings to summon Captain Planet!
3.) Count Duckula
Count Duckula is a duck that refused to follow in the family traditions of being a real vampire duck. (He’s a vegetarian). He lives with Igor, his butler, and a huge chicken who calls him "Duckyboos".
4.) Denver the Last Dinosaur
Denver - A dinosaur, who has been in suspended animation for 65 million years, is everyone's newest friend. The young dinosaur's human-like kindness and outrageously joyful lifestyle imbue him with a magnetic personality that is impossible to resist.
5.) Mr. Men
Mr. Men is a series of 48 children's books by Roger Hargreaves which started in 1971. Mr. Men features characters with names such as "Mr. Tickle" and "Mr. Happy".
6.) She-Ra
She-Ra, the Princess of Power, was a spin-off series from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. She was his long lost twin sister, captured by the Horde as a baby, and rescued by He-Man much later.
7.) The Smurfs
The Smurfs is a comic and television franchise centered on a group of small blue fictional creatures. The Smurfs fulfill simple archetypes of everyday people: Lazy Smurf, Grouchy Smurf, Brainy Smurf, and so on.
8.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Turtles, guided by the rat known as Splinter, are in a constant battle against Krang and Shredder. The turtles also have a friend - April O'Neill - who defends the turtles on her news program.
9.) Pound Puppies
Pound Puppies is a series that was based on stuffed toys that were created in the 1980s. It focuses on a group of dogs who work together with the human who adopted them. They to try to find nice homes for dogs just like themselves. However, there are some in their city who would rather not let the dogs find a good home.
10.) Thundercats
When their home planet of Thundera blows up, the people on the planet, the Thunderians leave in their spaceships to settle on foreign land. Liono, leader of the Thundercats is a mere child but through time and space grows into a man to lead the Thundercats.
