His debut album, ‘Brendan: A brand new day’, showcases the musical prowess of a budding young prodigy who chose to donate sales proceeds of his debut album to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund. The Business Times Budding Artists Fund enables economically disadvantaged children between the ages of five and twelve to pursue their aspirations in Singapore and provides platforms for established professional artists to impart their skills and experiences onto the next generation of talents.

A note-worthy mentor

One individual who played a significant role in the production of ‘Brendan: A brand new day’ is Qin Li Wei. As head of cello studies of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory at the National University of Singapore, Qin Li Wei has tutored Brendan personally since he was 9 years old. All the dedication and efforts invested by Brendan finally paid off when he performed with the principal cellist of the Sofia Philarmonic Orchestra, Bogomil Karakanov, in Sofia, Bulgaria under the baton of Australian conductor, Peter Moore who is best known for the “Baby Prom” programme in the year 2007. In 2010, Brendan also performed the Joseph Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C with the Littlewood Players in Salzburg, Austria.

With continuous loving support from both his parents, Dr. and Mrs Wilson Goh, Brendan will soon be starting the next phase of his musical journey. His debut album which features seventeen tracks includes tunes such as Bach/Gounod’s Ave Maria, Beethoven’s Minuet in G and Rimsky Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumble Bee all of which were performed for the last time on the antique 1720 Paolo Testore cello, which has accompanied Brendan since he was 9 years old and has now outgrown. Gifted and with a heart of gold, Brendan has filled his future with endless opportunities and bright days. ‘Brendan: A brand new day’ is available in selected stores now.
