There is good news for all Singaporeans. Every household on the island will receive $100 in Community Development Council (CDC) vouchers.
All 1.3 million homes will be able to buy food and groceries with these vouchers across Singapore.
Food And Grocery: CDC Vouchers For Every Household In Singapore
In a press release on Monday (18 October), the five CDCs announced that the $130 million CDC Vouchers Scheme will be rolled out over the following few months.
This began with the recruitment and onboarding of heartland merchants and hawkers.
The $130 million CDC Vouchers Scheme was announced earlier this year during Budget 2021. The purpose of the scheme was to thank all Singaporeans for their “spirit of resilience” during the pandemic. This was also to continue the support for heartland merchants and hawkers in their businesses.
“Inspired by Singaporeans’ indomitable spirit, the five Community Development Councils and the People’s Association will soon be rolling out the next tranche of the CDC Vouchers Scheme as a way to show appreciation to Singaporeans for their sense of solidarity as we navigate through the challenges,” said Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong.
CDC Vouchers Scheme To Be Launched In A Digital Form
Instead of distributing physical paper vouchers as done in previous iterations, the vouchers this time around will be distributed digitally for the first time.
Over the next few months, ambassadors of CDC vouchers from the CDCs and SG Digital Office (SDO) will invite and guide heartland merchants and hawkers to download the RedeemSG Merchant app.
This app will allow them to easily accept government-issued digital vouchers. It will also help them track voucher transactions.
The initiative was also said to be in response to suggestions from merchants and hawkers for faster payouts. The new digital process will give hawkers the convenience of reducing the need for them to collect, count and hand over paper vouchers.
Heartland merchants and hawkers can also visit here to register their interest. Afterwards, a CDC Vouchers Ambassador will reach out to them in the next two weeks.
“We hope heartland merchants and hawkers will take this chance to get on board this free scheme which will not only help widen their customer base, but also provide a guided initiation to the use of digital platforms for their long-term growth and future,” said Chairperson of the Mayor’s Committee and Mayor of the South West District Low Yen Ling.
She added, ” We look forward to their strong participation in this scheme which also aims to strengthen our community resilience.”
