Eight-year-old David Spisak Jr, from Virginia, USA, is terminally ill with leukaemia.
In a touching interview with ABC News, David said that he has vowed to spend his last days with the love of his life -- a seven-year-old classmate named Ayla. He is seen in the video hugging Ayla, in a "poignant expression of young love."
“How do you know you love her?” says an interviewer can be heard saying in the video.
"My heart", is David's brief but touching answer.
A battle with cancer since he was a toddler
David was diagnosed with leukaemia at just two years of age and has been battling cancer since then. He has already has two transplants and had four cancer diagnoses... and managed to exceed all expectations.
But doctors said early this year that the boy would only live a little over a month without treatment.
His parents David and Amber Spisak resolved to make the best of things in the little time David has left to live.
Ms. Spisak reportedly said, “If the outcome was going to be the same, if he was going to continue to get cancer, we decided that if he wasn’t going to win, that we would give him everything right now.”
So they first organised a "date" for David with Ayla, which was a trip to the bowling alley, complete with a teddy bear and flowers as a gift.
Ayla, who has been described by David as the “real Snow White, because she’s so kind”, stayed by her friend's side during the entire time, pushing his wheelchair around and helping with the bowling balls.
“We were all so taken aback by their bond... It was so natural, there was no hesitation from neither one of them. They just wanted to be together,” said Ms. Spisak, describing the relationship between the kids as a “heartfelt connection”.
True love truly is a beautiful thing, right?
