5 ways for parents to ease your child to primary school
If you're struggling with preparing your child to start primary school, we've got some great tips to help get you ready. Here are 5 easy ways to make the transition easier for your child:
Talk to your child.
It is always good to let your child know what to expect, like what his daily routines are going to be, what recess, assembly, physical education (P.E.) etc. are all about. If you are not sure about his schedule, ask his primary school teachers. They will be more than willing to help ease your child’s fears away.

Reassurance.
Children hate changes. But let them know that his future experience in primary school will be better and brighter. You could try saying, 'Education is what grown-ups have to go through. Primary school is only one step to growing older and wiser. We have all gone through primary school; there is nothing to be scared of.'
Do not pressure your child.
Avoid saying things like, 'teachers will whack you, or scold you if you misbehave'. Do not threaten your child with the disciplinary master/mistress. Your child will grow up hating teachers and the disciplinary-in-charge. You want them to respect these people instead. Tell your child gently that teachers will be there for you whenever you need help but if you misbehave, they won't like it.
Encouragement.
Many parents have an unwilling child, who bawls his eyes out, howls like the wolves just to stay home and not go to a new school. On the first day of school, accompany your child and make him feel comfortable in his new setting. Give him encouragements, and say 'Wow, look your school has a pond!' or 'Look at the older kids, they love it here!' Say things that will make him interested and want to stay in the school.
Help them make friends.
Playmates and buddies will never fail a parent. If your child makes a good buddy on the first day of school, he will end up having a great day at school. In fact, he'll end up having a great school year. After all, time flies when you're having fun, right?
