In a press statement, AirAsia, shared that 31-year-old passenger Liew Siaw Hsia, a waitress from Tai Ping, went into a surprise labour on Wednesday’s flight from Penang to Kuching. She was just 27 weeks pregnant.

According to Liew, when she boarded the flight, she already was feeling some discomfort. But 20 minutes into the journey, she started feeling contractions . After notifying the crew, they made an emergency diversion to Kuala Lumpur.

However, the high-flying baby arrived just before landing! He was delivered by a doctor who was on board and was assisted by the airline’s flight attendants.

Following touchdown, both mother and babe were rushed to a nearby hospital. “To celebrate this momentous occasion, we decided to present both mother and child with free flights for life,” said AirAsia’s director of operations Moses Devanayagam after visiting them in hospital.
