How many of us have witnessed an abuse case and thought close to nothing of it, and simply shrugged it off?
On April 20, The Coalition government of Australia has launched an Advertisement that confronts the issue of people encouraging gender stereotypes and dismissing aggressive behaviour of men and boys towards women and girls.
The advertisement is titled “Respect,” and it travels between time periods in the life of a boy and girl, illustrating how disrespectful behaviour towards women can start at a young age and progressively turn into something serious.
“People know that violence against women is wrong. What they may not know is that … all of us can unknowingly excuse and therefore perpetuate the behaviour that can lead to violence” Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said. She added that excuses like, “it’s just boys being boys” had to stop.
