During the flu season, your child may come down with a head cold that results in a chesty cough and sore throat. This coughing spell and throat inflammation can cause a lot of discomfort to your little one, especially if it is keeping her up all night.
Despite the discomfort, there is not much you can do to soothe your child’s condition. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend cough medication for children under the age of four because most contain potentially harmful or even fatal substances. On the other hand, medical experts recommend that sore throat in children below two years old is tackled by increasing their fluid intake, rather than relying on medication.
So what are your options to relieve your child’s coughing spells and the pain and inflammation of her sore throat?
