Singapore celebrity couple Andie Chen and Kate Pang have bid goodbye to Mediacorp to go independent. They have decided to focus on their online channel Kandie Family, which features videos of them and their two children, 3-year-old son Aden and 1-year-old daughter Avery.
Chen posted on Instagram, “Today, 1st November 2017 marks a new chapter in my career. I will no longer have a contract with Mediacorp.”
“I have always placed my growth as an artist as the top priority in every career decision I make. This means making unique and seemingly illogical career choices at times.”

“Setting up my own company will give me the freedom to pursue projects that I am passionate about and I believe this is the only way an artist can reach his full potential.”
“I look forward to challenging myself in the days ahead with projects on stage, online, film and television. Not only as a performer, but also a producer and director.”
While Pang said, “In this big family, I’ve gotten a lot of friendship and have also built my own family. In this life, there is more than one milestone, because of my family and children, I need more time and space to realise my dreams.”
According to The Straits Times, Chen and Pang’s contracts with Mediacorp ended on Oct 31.
Over the last decade, Chen has acted in popular Mediacorp dramas such as The Little Nyonya (2008), Prosperity (2011), The Journey trilogy series (2013-2015). He was most recently seen as Chong Meng in Lion Mums 2.
Kate Pang first came to Singapore, for what she thought was 2 years. She ended up staying for 7. She has won a Star Award for Best Newcomer in 2012 for A Tale Of 2 Cities.
The Andie Chen and Kate Pang story
Andie Chen and Kate Pang first met while filming the Ch 8 blockbuster Joys Of Life in early 2012, but it was only when they acted as lovers in Break Free later that year that they started developing feelings for each other.
They ended up dating secretly for over a year before announcing their marriage in November 2013. Their son, Aden was born in June 2014, while their daughter, Avery, arrived last June.
As they both get ready to move on to the next stage in their careers, there is no bitterness or animosity.
Chen writes, “Most of my 10 years in acting, I was attached to the company (Mediacorp). They have given me a start in my career, a channel to explore my passions and most importantly they played a big part in the formation of my family.”
“For these reasons and more, I’ll forever be grateful, and I am happy to be moving on to the next stage of my career with their blessings.”
“The end of my contract is by no means an end to my relationship with Mediacorp, we are still working on projects currently and will be working together regularly in the future.”
