Have you ever heard advice from family or friends not to post pictures of your child on social media ? If you have ever received such a reprimand, don’t be easily swayed. This may actually be related to ain disease. The cause of ain disease actually stems from the gaze of the eyes accompanied by envy or a sense of wonder at what is being looked at.

What is Ain’s Disease?

Quoting from the Federal Regional Mufti website, ‘ain disease is established in the Islamic texts. Allah SWT says:

وَإِن يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ
Meaning : And indeed, those who disbelieve almost make you slip and fall with their glances (full of hostility and hatred),

Ain disease is a disease caused by the gaze of the eyes accompanied by envy or a sense of wonder in anyone who looks at them.

It can happen either from an envious person or a loved one, from an evil person or a righteous person.

Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said:

“’Ain is a look of envy from a bad habit that can cause harm to the person it looks at. It can happen with a sense of wonder even without any envy or jealousy, (it can also happen) even from a person who loves and (even) from a righteous person (unintentionally).”

“‘Ain is a look of envy from a bad habit that can cause harm to the person it looks at.”

“’Ain can occur with a sense of wonder even without any envy or jealousy, (it can also occur) even from a person who loves and (even) from a righteous person (unintentionally).”

According to Ibn al-Qayyim, “The soul of the person who is the cause of ‘ain can cause ‘ain, without going through vision.

Even sometimes there is a blind person, then something is told to him and his soul can cause ‘ain even though he does not see that thing. There are many causes of ‘ain that can cause ‘ain to occur, just by telling him without seeing it.”

This means that eye diseases in infants or adults can also occur just by feeling without seeing, such as through television and pictures.

Causes of Ain’s Disease

In today’s world full of sharing on social media, ‘ain disease is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid. Therefore, it is important for us to understand the real cause of ‘ain disease so that we can protect ourselves and our families, especially young children who still don’t know anything.

1. The View of Envy

A person who looks with envy or jealousy can cause another individual to suffer from ‘ain. These negative feelings can affect the physical and emotional health of the victim .

2. Prayerless Awe

Praising or admiring someone without praying for blessings can be the cause of ain disease. For example, praising the beauty of a baby without saying “Masya Allah” or the appropriate prayer .

3. Social Media

Sharing photos or videos of children on social media without the protection of prayer can open the door to envious views from others. This can expose children to ‘ain diseases

That’s why we shouldn’t be too surprised or jealous when we see our relatives’ children or property. It’s our own fear that is the cause.

This issue was shared by Team Tazkirah founder, Mustaqim Ahmad on Instagram, who explained the reason why some mothers are prevented from sharing photos and its connection to infantile colic:

“Don’t post pictures of your newborn baby. In a few weeks, if you want to post, go ahead.”

I’ve heard this person’s advice before. But I don’t really understand why. As far as I know, there is no evidence that it is haram to upload pictures of newborn babies. After I did some research, it turns out that this has something to do with baby’s eye disease or eye disease.

“Eye disease? What about the eyes?”

It’s not an eye disease. This ‘ain disease is a human gaze that is so full of wonder or jealousy that it affects the person being looked at. It sounds illogical.

In a hadith of the Prophet SAW:

“The ‘ain disease really exists, if there is something that can precede destiny, ‘ain is the one who can do it.” (HR Muslim)

‘Ain this is true. And dangerous too. And we can’t take it lightly. It happens when people look at us with amazement / admiration or with jealousy. Until we get sick.

Ibn Abbas once said:

“It is said that So-and-so is affected by ‘ain, that is when enemies or envious people look at him and that look affects him to the point of causing him to fall ill.”

Mothers are prevented from uploading baby scan photos

One of theAsianparent community users asked a question about ain’s disease after being reprimanded by a friend.

According to her, she was reprimanded not to upload her pregnancy scan pictures , because there was a possibility of the baby having a genetic disease.

Post from the user using the name Adjie Abit, he received 25 comments from other users who on average agreed with the truth of this disease.

In fact, one user, Nur Hieda, shared her experience with infantile colic in her nephew.

Believe me, sis, there is a hadith that mentions that I have never uploaded any pictures during my entire life, until my child was 44 days old. Let me give you the closest example, my son really likes to update his child’s pictures, every few days, he is not only healthy, but suddenly he gets a fever, it is normal to have a fever, but this is a prolonged fever, even regular clinic doctors are unable to cure it, until he gets a specialist. Nauzubillah, may we all be protected from the evil eye..

Here are comments from other users:

Many insist that this disease is real and that the public, especially new mothers, should always be vigilant in everything that is exposed to the public. This includes babies who are still in their early stages or are still in the womb.

Prayer for Sickness

1. Prayer to Avoid Evil

The meaning of the prayer for illness:

“When one of you sees something from his brother, or sees his brother himself, or sees his wonderful wealth, then he should pray for blessings for his brother, because indeed the disease of ‘ain really exists.” (HR. Ahmad)

2. Prayer to Avoid Eye Diseases

God bless him and grant him peace

U’îdzuka bikalimâtillâhit tâmmati min kulli syaithânin, wa hammatin, wa min kulii ‘ainin lâmmah. Allâhumma bârik fîhi, wa lâ tadhurrah.

The meaning of the prayer for ain disease: “I entrust you with the perfect word of God from all the interference of the devil, animals/insects, and all the influence of the evil eye. My Lord, send down Your blessings on this child. Do not allow anything to harm him.”

3. Saying Words of Praise to Allah

Apart from reciting the prayer for illness, you are also strongly encouraged to always accompany your praise to others by saying:

  • Tabarak Allah (تبارك الله)
  • Masha’Allah (ما شاء الله).
  • Then complete the ablution by reciting Surah al-Ikhlas, Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas three times after Fajr and after Maghrib.

How to Cure Ain Disease

There are several ways to cure ain diseases through syar’ie treatment, namely:

1. How to Cure Ain Disease With Ruqyah or Prayer

If the ain (cause of ain) is not known then the ma’yun or victim is treated with ruqyah. The method of ruqyah is almost the same as ruqyah against the influence of jinn. There are only a few methods and prayers that are specific to this eye disease.

“O Messenger of Allah, the Bani Ja’far are suffering from ain, can we ask them for ruqyah? The Prophet replied: yes, we can. If there is someone who can precede destiny, it is ain” (HR. Tirmidhi)

The prayer for ain disease that was recited by the Angel Gabriel when performing ruqyah for the Prophet Muhammad SAW is as follows:

Bissmillahi arqikamin kullisyai’in yu’dziika min syarrikulli nafsin au’aini khaasidillahu yasfiika mismillahiarqiika.

Meaning: “In the name of Allah, I ruqyah you from everything that hurts you, and from the evil of every soul or the eyes of envious people. May Allah SWT grant healing. In the name of Allah, I treat you with your ruqyah.”

2. Bath

In a hadith narrated from Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif, he said: Amir bin Rabi’ah passed by Sahl bin Hunaif while he was taking a bath, so Amir said:

“I have not seen like today, a skin that is more similar (in beauty) to the skin of a woman who has been pinched.”

Not long after, Sahl fell, so he was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and it was said:

“Save Sahl who is lying sick.” He (PBUH) said: “Who do you suspect caused this?” They said: “Amir bin Rabi’ah.” The Prophet (PBUH) said:

عَلَامَ يَقْتُلُ أَحَدُكُمْ اَخَاُ, إِذَا رَأَى اَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ اَخِيهِ ma yُعجِبُ, فَلْيْدْعُ لُ لْبَرَكَةِ

Meaning : “Why does one of you kill his brother? When one of you sees something amazing in his brother, he should pray for blessings for him.”

Then the Prophet (PBUH) asked for water, then ordered Amir to perform ablution. Amir washed his face, both arms up to the elbows, both knees and the inside of his garment.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ordered him to pour (his ablution water) on Sahl.

Sufyan mentioned, Ma’mar said, from al-Zuhri: “His Majesty SAW ordered him to sprinkle water from his back.”-Narrated by Ibn Majah (2828), al-Nasa’ie (10036)

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

هَذِهِ الْكَيْفِيَّةُ لَا يَنْتَفِعُ بِحَا مَنْ أَنْكَرَاَ وَلَا مَنْ سَخِرَ مِنَا وَلَا مَنْ شَكَّ فِيهَا اَوْ فَعَلَهَا مُجرِبً غَيْرَ مُعْتَقِدٍ

“This method of treatment will not be able to benefit those who deny it, those who make fun of it, those who doubt it or those who do it just to try it out without believing.” (See Fath al-Bari(10/205)

May our children be protected from bad things and eye diseases. Amen!
