According to Norton, an Internet security firm, the words “porn” and “sex” are included in this year’s top five search items for Internet users under the age of 18. For boys, the top search items included games, shopping and adult terms while for girls, they’re music, television shows, and celebrities. Social networking sites were included in the top items for both boys and girls.
These results were collected through Norton’s OnlineFamily, a service that allows parents to filter and monitor their children’s internet use. Data collection was done from February to December this year.
As parents, you should be concerned about your kids’ use of the internet. While it’s impossible for you to ban your kids from going online, still you can prevent them from going to strangers or peers for explanations about the things that they are most curious about. Have regular discussions with them so they will know which online content are appropriate for them.
