You probably primarily describe your baby as cute, cuddly, and a drooling bundle of joy. But their intelligence shouldn’t be disregarded even at such an early age. This is because recent studies show that your baby is smarter than you think. They might not be able to walk or talk but they are extremely intelligent beings. Here are 8 ways your baby is actually smarter than you think:

1. It’s better to give than receive

Babies naturally want everything to be handed to them. Whenever they see something shiny or moving, they need to have it. Because of this, a baby may seem selfish at times. But your baby is smarter than you think. After collecting all the stuff, your baby will then share it with you or with some playmates. At an early age, your baby knows that giving is definitely better than receiving and that happiness comes with sharing.

2. Copycats

Babies are natural copycats. They tend to observe your actions and mimic them when deemed suitable. But did you know that your baby is smarter than you think when it comes to mimicking? When surrounded by boisterous babies, your child knows that getting away with the naughtiest actions will be possible because of the current company. Your baby will also act all goody-goody and quiet when surrounded with timid, quiet babies to avoid being scolded by mum.

3. Music is soul food

Your baby is smarter than you think especially when exposed to music at an early age. This exposure will improve the communication skills of your child, thus prompting early speech.

4. Linguist babies

Babies are natural linguists. At an early age, they can understand different languages that are spoken to them constantly. Shocked, right? Well, your baby is smarter than you think and could probably be the next Dora, Kai Lan or Diego.

5. Emotionally connected

Your baby is smarter than you think even if you haven’t really had the chance to recognize how emotionally connected they can be. Babies are so well attuned to the emotions of the people (and pets) around them that they are more than willing to remedy the situation. If you are feeling sad, your baby will definitely attempt to put a smile on your face.

6. Word meanings

At an early age, your baby can understand the different words that you teach. They do this by associating pictures and actual objects with the words that they always hear.

7. Fair play

Babies usually have a need to receive an equal amount of food or the same toy as their playmate or sibling, unless you want to see them cry. Babies who are attuned to fairness are more likely to grow up with a good sense of altruism.

8. Rewards and punishments

Your baby learns equality early in life. And because your baby is smarter than you think, grasping the concepts of rewards (for good behaviour) and punishment (for bad behaviour) comes naturally.
