[UPDATED, May 8, 11.29pm] 768 New Cases Reported
The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced 768 new coronavirus cases in Singapore on Friday (May 8).
Of these, 11 cases are from within the community — 10 Singaporeans/PRs and one Work Pass holder.
Seven cases were Work Permit Holders residing outside dormitories, with a majority of 750 cases being Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories, said MOH in an evening update.
The total count of coronaviruses cases in Singapore now stands at 21,707.
In its statement, MOH confirmed that there are no imported cases today and announced five new coronavirus clusters.
As there have been no more cases linked to Dover Court International School (301 Dover Road), ICA Building (10 Kallang Road) and Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home (1 Thomson Lane) for the past 28 days, these three clusters have now been closed.
Of the new cases, 93 per cent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.
A 34-year-old Resident Care Associate at Ren Ci @ Ang Mo Kio Nursing Home is the latest worker in the public healthcare sector to be confirmed with COVID-19. The Filipino Work Pass holder was tested for COVID-19 as part of MOH’s additional precautionary measures for nursing home staff, and was confirmed to have the infection on May 7. She is currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
328 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the total number of discharged to 2,040.
Of the 1,245 cases who are still in hospital, most are in stable condition or improving. 22 are in critical condition, while 18,402 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
The coronavirus death toll in Singapore currently stands at 20.
