A 6-year-old boy from New York named Alex is inspiring people all over the world after sending a letter to US President Obama and offering his home to Omran Daqneesh, the five-year-old Syrian boy who was photographed bloody and covered with soot inside an ambulance.
The White House posted Alex’s letter on their website. In the letter, Alex stated that he wants Omran to be a part of his family, and he offered to be the Syrian boy’s brother. He also adds that he wants to teach Omran to speak English, and how to ride a bike, and said that his sister Katherine would share her toys with Omran.
President Obama read Alex’s letter during a speech in the United Nations, and asked the people to read Alex’s message so that they could “understand why he had decided to share it with the world.”
Obama adds, “Those are the words of a six-year-old boy — a young child who has not learned to be cynical, or suspicious, or fearful of other people because of where they come from, how they look, or how they pray.”
The letter was also shared to Facebook and has since received over 100, 000 likes and has been shared more than 60, 000 times.
The death toll in Syria is still climbing, and there have been multiple bombings and airstrikes throughout the country, most especially in Aleppo. The hospitals in the country are also being overwhelmed since they can’t keep up with the influx of the casualties of the civil war in the country.
In these trying times, it’s very important for us to understand the extent of the tragedy that’s currently happening in Syria as well as offer our deepest help and understanding towards our fellow man.
