You know why us Asians are known for aging gracefully? Yes, our genes play a huge role, but it’s also thanks in part to the beauty rituals that Asian women have been practicing for generations. Here are some Asian beauty tips that you should definitely incorporate into your beauty routine:

1. Take care of your health

Ever wonder why you see so much green tea and ginseng infused in Korean skin care products? That’s because unprocessed and nutritious food is good for your skin, whether you eat them or slap them on your face in a mask form. There’s really no way around it: you need to eat well, stay hydrated, get sufficient sleep, and exercise. It’ll make a world of a difference.

2. Make your eyes pop with the right eye makeup

If you have almond-shaped eyes, it’s best not to line your eyes too thickly. You might also want to line just the top lid with black liquid eyeliner. Follow with a volumizing mascara and a curler, which work great for the short, straight eyelashes most Asians have.

3. Embrace your monolids (if you have them)

It’s saddening that many Asians feel that need creased eyelids to feel beautiful. There are many ways to accentuate your single eyelids with makeup — ways that don’t entail drawing on a fake crease. Just lightly dust some eyeshadow them and follow with eyeliner.

4. Cleanse daily, and use a face brush

Face brushes have been around for some time now, but not everyone has incorporated this game-changing tool into their beauty routine. If you haven’t, start now. It’ll help your skin absorb serums and creams, and will help keep your skin supple and toned.

5. Stay in the shade

Never underestimate the amount of damage the sun could wrack on your skin. Plenty of Asians are prone to hyper-pigmentation, meaning they can easily develop freckles and sun spots. Apply liberal amounts of SPF before venturing out into the sun, and remember to reapply.

6. Cleanse with oil

This may sound counterintuitive, but cleansing oils can protect your skin from breakouts and dry patches. Look for a cleansing oil WITHOUT mineral oil.
