#2 The largest Smurfs collector in the world has over 6,320 pieces of memorabilia

If you think you’re a huge fan of the Smurfs, you have to meet Gerda P. Scheuers who holds the official title of their biggest fan (or at least memorabilia collector). The American woman holds the Guinness Book of World Records’ title with a recorded 6,320 pieces in 2014.
In 2015, she interviewed with local news outlet, Ripon Press,, admitting that her collection has grown much larger and she adds on about 20 new pieces a month! Now, she even has her kid collecting too.
#3 When Smurfs cannot breathe, they turn purple!
If humans go blue when they cannot breathe, then what colour do Smurfs turn?

If you didn’t already know this, when a Smurf decides to hold his breath, he turns purple, answering the age-old question. Incidentally, in one of the many comics written about the Smurfs, one of the Smurfs is bitten by a Purple Fly and becomes infected with the Purple disease. The disease spreads and turns other Smurfs into Purple Smurfs…
#4 … And the Purple disease is how Grouchy Smurf became grouchy!

Grouchy isn’t an easy favourite, but he comes with a pretty interesting back story.
In one of the original comics, “The Black Smurfs”, Grouchy was just like any other normal Smurf until he got bitten by the Purple Fly. He was infected and became a Purple Smurf zombie that started biting other Smurfs to infect them too.
This was until Papa Smurf found the cure that saved the whole village. Although Grouchy became blue again, it is said that he retained the facial expressions of a Purple Smurf (which is grouchy) because he was purple for the longest duration.
#5 The word “Smurf” can be used as a noun, an adjective, a verb or an adverb.
The word was a made-up word by the Belgian creator of the Smurfs, Pierre Culliford. It is the Dutch translation of the French word “Schtroumpf”, which he had invented while having a meal with a fellow designer and couldn’t remember the word for salt.
So, just like Peyo and the world of Smurfs, you can use it as a substitute for just about anything. Just let your imaginations run wild! What a Smurfingly good idea!
