6 home remedies for whiter teeth

1 Aug, 2013

Check out these 6 home remedies for whiter teeth on a budget!

Strawberries

Strawberries

The first item on this list of home remedies for whiter teeth simply involves the use of strawberries. Strawberries contain malic acid and according to beauty expert Lousia Mccan-Graves, malic acid is an essential ingredient in teeth whitening toothpastes.

Directions: All you need is 1 to 2 strawberries. Mash it up and then apply them to your teeth for 2 to 3 minutes. After that, just wash it off or brush your teeth.

Banana Peel

Banana Peel

This may surprise you but banana peels are also able to help whiten your teeth. Banana peels reportedly contain many teeth whitening nutrients like potassium and calcium.

Directions: This method only requires you to rub a banana peel to your teeth 2 to 3 times a week. Rub the banana peel on your teeth for 2 minutes. After waiting 15 minutes, brush your teeth normally.

Carrots

Carrots

According to Dr. Michael Apa, a specialized cosmetic dentist, carrots ‘are high in Vitamin C, which prevents gum disease and gingivitis and kills odor-causing bacteria.’ Carrots also help to balance the acid-alkali concentration inside your oral cavity.

Directions: The simple act of eating raw carrots might help to whiten your teeth. Alternatively, you can even rub raw carrot sticks onto your teeth.

Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice

Lemon is powerfully acidic and its acidic quality works like a bleaching agent to help whiten your teeth. However, its acidic quality is also the reason why this particular remedy should not be used more than twice a week as it may cause tooth decay.

Directions: Either apply lemon juice or rub the lemon peel on to your teeth. If you use lemon juice, use an equal amount of water and lemon juice.

Baking Soda

Baking Soda

Baking soda has long been heralded as one of the best teeth whitening agents. Baking soda is a common component of many teeth whitening toothpastes. Thus, it is no surprise that baking soda is included in this list of home remedies for whiter teeth. Baking soda neutralizes the acidity in your mouth and helps to remove stains.

Directions: Use a small quantity of salt and when combined with baking soda, apply it to your teeth with a soft toothbrush. After 2 to 3 minutes, wash it off with water.

Whiter Teeth

It is important to note that you can’t solely rely on just this list or other home remedies for whiter teeth. Maintaining white teeth requires you to really take care of your dental health.

Here are some other important things to take note of if you want pearly white teeth:

Brush and floss your teeth daily.

Stay away from beverages, which stain your teeth like coffee or soda.

Quit smoking.
